    Servillo DLNA

I have tried to get my Ubuntu LMS to communicate with my new Sony Network Media player using DLNA .. the Sony sees the server, but doesn't get any of the content...so I put free server sw on a windows XP netbook called Servillo..work like a charm...

I was wondering what wld happen if I put the linux version of Servillo on the same server as LMS - both accessing the same library..does anyone see a conflict here ??

Not a problem. I have LMS 7.7.1 and Serviio 0.6.1 running on a VortexBox Appliance with VortexBox 2.0/Fedora 16. I also have another DLNA server (minidlna) on the same platform. All play well together.

Same here. I have minidlna running alongside LMS on several different boxes. Those two seem to play nicely together.

Last week, someone suggested that I run plex in order to stream to a jail-broken apple tv 2. I'm curious about this. Anyone have any experience with plex?

Yes - they can coexist...I have the Serviio running just fine on the same box as the Logitech

.here is another DLNA question .. I would like to diable the DLNA 'advertisement' from the Logitech Media Server, and use only the Serviio server -- any ideas ?

Right now, the Sony network media player shows both the serviio and the logitech...I have disabled the dlna plugin on the media server, but it still shows up...not available for any playback as the icon is greyed out.

Obviously not critical, just a nuisance

Yes. I installed Plex Media Server on my VortexBox (Fedora 16) and have used it to stream to the Plex app on my jailbroken AppleTV 2 running aTV Flash (black) v 1.2. Plex has a very nice user interface. The files being streamed are .m4v video which were encoded by HandBrake using the ATV2 preset.

There still are some glitches in the ATV2 Plex app; it sometimes hangs and I have to power-cycle the ATV2 to recover. The ATV2 Plex app is still beta quality, but hopefully the glitches will be ironed out some time soon.

I have also tested with the Mac OS X Plex Media Server and have the same hanging issues on the ATV2 Plex app.

In your view, would you advise someone to stick with XBMC for now while the plex hanging issues are resolved? Or go with plex and live with the glitches?

I don't see that with my setup. If the LMS DLNA plugin is disabled, DLNA clients aren't listing LMS as a potential source.

While testing a variety of DLNA servers, I have seen this behaviour on both a Sony TV and Bluray player - it seems to be a Sony bug/feature as the servers it was showing had been deleted. I think to get rid of the servers you may have to power off the Sony device.

Both Plex 0.9.0 Beta 4 and XBMC have issues on ATV2 4.4.4. I recommend aTV Flash (black) Media Player 1.2 as the most stable player right now if you don't want to use iTunes as the server.

    See http://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/...4-not-playing/ for Plex status.

See http://blog.firecore.com/6722 for aTV Flash (black) 1.2 and Media Player 1.2 status. Users are reporting XBMC crashes here.

See http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki-index.php?page=ATV2 for a wiki article on installing aTV Flash (black) 1.2 on an ATV2 for use with VortexBox.

I upgraded the Ubuntu to 11.10 - no more advertising on the Sony player, and, thankfully, no 'issues' with LMS
