Whats the point in high price HiFi amps and speakers ?

The fact that some music is clipped is a bit of a surprise to me. Check out the "Ricky Martin" track !!

It makes one wonder what the point is in top $ HiFi equipment, or ?

Popular topic around here search for "loudness war" Not exactly shocking news.

However the records that deviate from this practice makes it worthwhile to have a good hifi/ht and movies , this practice has not permeated the movie bussines (yet) sadly it is comming there too .

Many odd acts I've found on bandcamp lately have surprisingly good SQ as they are self puplished music there is no record company executive forcing the issue of "louder than everybody else" sound ?

Yeah, the bottom line is: don't waste money in high end equipment if you're going to listen to crappy recordings only anyway :-).

Just checked some of my recent downloads form B&W's Society of Sound, and they still honour the dynamics of a good recording. Just a random track:

(Medina from Dub Colossus' "Dub Will Tear Us Apart")
    Michael

    "It doesn't work - what shall I do?" - "Please check your server.log and/or scanner.log file!"

My personal feeling is that indie labels are much better at ignoring this loudness bulldung than the mainstream garbage factories. Personal anecdote: I sent our record guy a link to http://www.turnmeup.org/ before he mastered (spam alert) our album earlier this year. He answered that he'd subscribed to their ideas for many years already.

High price is relative: Are you talking Wilson Audio/Focal high or Dynaudio high?
