Have you got a load of other stuff running on the box? I'm surprised that it's
swapping with 512MB RAM. What does the output of the "free" command look like?

Here's what I get on my server (Dual 1GHZ PIII, 1.5GB RAM, Fedora Core 2)

[robin@dude slimserver]$ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1517 600 917 0 171 217
-/+ buffers/cache: 211 1306
Swap: 0 0 0

So, I'm using 600M of memory, but 171M of that is buffer and 217M is cache
leaving 211M actually used.

(I've got apache and mysql running on the same box.)
