It's too bad we lost Jimi and other greats back in the day. I did see Buddy Guy about 9 years ago and one thing he did during his show was he made the statement that he was every bit as good as Jimi on the guitar. He then proceeded to play behind his back, over his head and even with his teeth all while playing the Hendrix edition of the Star Spangled Banner and didn't miss a beat. It was a great cover and I was impressed!

Taskaha by Taskaha, released the 28th of August and mastered by the legendary Jens Bogren. Clean sounding and tight progĺish rock, with a lot of fun twists and tributes to different music styles.

Some recent records I've picked up:

Don Cherry - Cherry Jam 45rpm mono 12" vinyl of a session recorded in Copenhagen in 1965. Now, I'm certainly no jazz fan, but I do like this! The sleeve is pleasantly old-fashioned, and the EP is advertised as fully analogue all the way from tapes to vinyl. So what did I do? I ripped it and added it to my LMS library. Sacrilege! This was a Record Store Day drop 2 release.

Yo La Tengo - And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out double LP from 2000, re-issued and came with an mp3 download. I'm catching up a bit with Yo La Tengo.

SUMAC - May You Be Held sort of sludge metal. I first heard them a few years ago when they released a collaborative album with Keiji Haino, and I bought this and it's predecessor LP. Very nicely packaged and on a peculiar tan/black splatter pattern vinyl. Came with mp3 download.

I'm listening to Musica Transonic - a double LP on Black Editions. Black Editions are a Los Angeles based label with an ongoing programme of re-releases on vinyl of some interesting records originally on CD from the Japanese P.S.F. label. This one's a double of heavy psych rock featuring Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple fame. Peculiarly all the track titles are in Greek. They've done a lovely job on the sleeve (it's a gatefold with metallic and gloss effects), but maybe the music is an acquired taste! Came with a Bandcamp download code, so I have it as flac. As an aside, it's great to have a lossless download with vinyl. The picture of the sleeve doesn't do it justice.
