I thought on the later boards (3.1) that those pin's are irrelivant and

I doubt it because I'd be willing to bet the new SBG boards don't have
three pins required for the IR. Old SB's have three pins, and I'd bet
new SBGs only have the one pins needed now, so there will likely be
no way to get an old display working on a new SBG.
