    Slimserver on a wii ...

Just a note, for anyone interested, the Nintendo Wii's opera browser
works very nicely indeed with the Nokia770 skin... I was thinking of
building a wii-specific skin, but the Nokia770 skin is pretty close to
ideal out-of-the-box. Some text is a bit small in the default
zoomed-out mode, but I can always zoom in, and if the text were bigger
the screen might be a bit cluttered.

I saw someone on flickr who has the same setup, if you want an idea of
    how it looks:

(though this uses the 'touch' screen - I can't see much difference
between this and the Nokia770 screen, myself)

That's really cool! Since the Wii has Opera, it's not a big surprise that Nokia770 skin works well, since I designed that for the Nokia 770 device, which also uses Opera.

Your Flickr pic is of the Touch skin, and I can tell by looking at it that it's the old version of Touch...just an FYI, if you upgrade to a newer version of Slimserver you will see Touch look nearly exactly like Nokia770, because the old Touch went away about 6 months ago in favor of a new Touch that inherits most (but not all) of its elements from Nokia770.

Very cool to see though...this looks far more usable than the lengths people are going to using a PSP as a slim controller.

    cheers,

Re: Slimserver on a wii ...

Sorry, I should have been clearer - that's someone else's flickr page,
I'm using the Nokia skin but haven't gotten around to uploading a
    photo

The touch-style interface is great mainly as the wii controller works
like yet another remote control, but with a mouse style cursor as well
for easy scrolling and picking from lists.

I'm not sure how it'll work in a crowded room, however, as the wii
remote needs line of sight to the "sensor bar" (which is basically
just two IR LEDs on a stick) to do it's pointing magic. I'll find out
tomorrow (it's my 40th birthday party!) - though I mainly intend to do
playlists, so it won't matter too much if the setup is a fizzer.
Certainly it's a lot of fun for general use - though it forced me to
do a lot of work tracking down album art

Has anyone tried Nokia770 on the release version of the Wii browser? It's quite buggy. The Fixed positioned navigation at the top scrolls, as does the bottom footer. When browsing covers the footer appears over top of the covers list.

Anyone have it in them to make a brand new skin that's better suited for a TV display?

I've probably mentioned this before, but it's completely within Logitech/Slim's best interests to get a great browsing experience happening for better (and better looking) control of the Squeezeboxes.

We've seen a bunch of people recently talk about the AppleTV, but in my opinion that device would make an excellent controller for Slimserver and not a replacement for a Squeezebox. A TV-based interface with large album art makes for an excellent show - it's also very well suited for a party or gathering. Using an AppleTV as a web browser is not yet part of the out-of-box experience of course.

I'm mainly concerned about a skin for Wii use (and its Opera trickiness)

Unfortunately none of the current skins are very well suited for this purpose. There are many reasons why not, but I won't get into that here. Suffice it to say the best solution is a brand new skin with pretty much nothing visual or interface related borrowed from any of the current ones.

    How to Access Plugins?

    Hi,
This is awesome. But I don't see how to access my Plugins on either Touch or Nokia770. I use mainly SQL or Dynamic Playlists and with either of these skins I couldn't access those features. I switched to a customized version the handheld skin (which I use on my HTC 8125), this worked, but does not look nearly as cool.

I think I would use this most when guests were over for the WOW factor. Other than that, hey, I start a playlist and walk away.

    But again, WAY COOL!

Thanks in advance for help with the Touch or Nokia770 Plugins question.

Yes indeed, that would rule. My proposal: build a flash player right into the SqueezeCenter interface, one that persists while you're changing pages and such. That would be fantastic for all kinds of purposes, not just the Wii.
