    Transporter Forum??

I noticed that the new SqueezeBox Boom now has it's very own Slim Devices forum section and I was wondering why none of the other devices, like the SqueezeBox Classic, The Duet or the Transporter, have their forum sections. I think this would be very useful, especially for the Transporter since the Transporter, like the SqueezeBox Boom, has many more features and functionality than the SqueezeBox Classic.

Back when the Transporter was released, electrons were too valuable to
waste a whole forum for the needs of the 42 owners of Transporters.

Plus, we are so superior, that we don't need any help.

I think the Boom subsection was mostly because folks have been asking
for a boombox for ages, so they can go talk about it without bother us.

You can check it out and see if you are amazed by the level of
exchanging happening there. To me, its mostly whining that there is no
car battery and little red wagon to make the Boom be portable, or
complaints that no units have been delivered yet to the dark side of the
    moon.

Plus Transporter folks just listen to music.

Yeah, we created a Boom forum to give folks a focused place to talk about the new product. I think it's worked out well and should add some more. I propose:

    Transporter
    Squeezebox Duet (Controller & Receiver)
    Squeezebox Classic (Squeezebox v2 & v3)
    SqueezeCenter

    Reactions?

    I really don't like segregation.

If I was going to do a lot of arbitrary splits, I would separate out
Receiver from Controller, because ignoring the marketing spin, they are
separate and often users have problems with one or the other.

But I don't like the idea of the splits.

More so, if I was going to make a useful split, I'd put a separate
section for networking. A huge percentage of problems that users have
with Controllers and Receivers are due to WiFi and firewall issues, in
most cases the SD/Logi parts work fine.

If we had a Networking Problems forum, we could have some stickies and
point folks with networking issues to go there.

The fact that the Wiki has all the information is mostly irrelevant,
seems folks come to the forum and expect answers in the forum.

As for splitting the forums. The Boom forum is working well and the main forum is becoming a bit swamped. I don't like splitting forums too much though and think that things can easily become confused, with the demarcation failing and ending up with threads having to be moved from one forum to another far too often. However, if they were to be split Deans split by product is the correct thing to do. Giving Transporter users and Audiophiles seperate forums would enable sensible Transporter owners to stay sane. Individual Duet and SlimCenter forums would be useful too. Creating one called networking would not work as virtually all the people who write in with networking problems don't realise they have networking problems.

It's a bit of a shame more people don't write into the beginners forums instead of diving straight into the main forum.

You'll need to hire more moderators!

If the moderators are happy to spend all their time moving incorrectly-assigned posts, then fine! :-)

Actually I can see some benefit in the split. I agree that the General board is getting too bloated, to a point when people are having their posts pushed off the first page without any response.

If it's decided to have product-based boards, I would still like to see General, Beginners (like a pre-sales board) and all the supplimentary boards too (Music, Photos, etc).

Naw, then no one will talk to each other. It's fine the way it is. Plus how are you going to split the audiophools from the audiophiles? yes there is a difference.

If the rule you followed brought you to this, of what use is the rule.
