    Software Squeezebox vs WinAmp, etc.

I see lots of messages about Richard's software squeezebox.
I love to see initiative, but can someone clue me in as to why
you'd want it over any other media player?

I like using the SlimServer web front end to control my Sqbx,
but I can play anything off of my music server using WinAmp when I'm
at a PC. The files are simply shared with Samba. It works fine.

    What am I missing?

    thanks
    Pat

I have not yet installed Softsqueeze, but I will once it becomes a bit
more developed. I want to be able to synch my pc with my Slimp3 to be
able to have the same music in both my livingroom and my bedroom. That
is something Winamp cannot do due to lag btw stream vs Slimp3.

Obviously I would rather have a hw Squeeze in the bed room, but since I
lack an amp and speakers and I've heard that there are issues between
Slimps and Squeezes when it comes to syncing I will wait until I can buy
two Squeezes (or more). Until the the Softsqueeze will be perfect.

I would think that the idea is that this software player, if it emulates a
squeezebox closely enough, can synchronize with other hardware players. This
would then give the users more players to have music on, without having to pay
    another $300 for hardware.

It is also conventient for plugin developers who, like me, are much happier
testing with an emulator, than facing the possibility of locking up a hardware
player and having to unplug it and try again every time something doesn't work well.
