Pre-announce Planet Radio / Bauer Media plugin - PlanetRock, Absolute, Kiss, Scala ++

This plugin is for track (cover art, artist, title) and programme (picture, title, synopsis) for Bauer Media (UK) stations (for example: Planet Rock, Absolute, Kiss, Jazz FM, Scala, Kerrang!, Magic, Greatest Hits, Country Hits and some local radio stations (e.g. Clyde, Cool, Pirate).
This includes the various related stations in brands such as Absolute 80s, KisStory,
LMS (via TuneIn) already provides track title and artist for some of the stations - but without cover art and no programme details.

I have seen that the track information transitions are a bit out of sync with live playing - but to a varying degree across different stations and at different times.
They do provide an offset to use but it does not seem to be correct. Overall, it is close enough to be useable.

This is still work in progress.
For example - I plan to:
    - add more matching by TuneIn id (lots of stations to find - I have not done all of the local stations yet)
    - add the list of stations to the menu to make it easier to play them
    - provide listen again links (not investigated deeply yet but I think it could be feasible)

If you find that track information is not showing then first check their web site at https://www.planetradio.co.uk and see if it is there.
(click on the top left to get a drop down list)

If the track information is not there then it is probably why the plugin is not showing it. For example - they appear to have had a problem on Sunday night through to Monday morning with no updates for a lot of stations.

To try this early version use the plugin repo at

Amazing that after so many years after launch of the LMS still new plugins are written. That keeps the ecosystem alive.
    Thank you, Paul.

Hi Paul - thanks for this, it'll be a good addition. I'm just trying it out now, but I'm getting a couple of problems, best explained with pictures:

Yep - I have not done the list of stations yet so that part will not work.

Just find the station in Radio.Net or TuneIn and play from there.

    Brilliant work Paul!

i am not seeing any extra cover info for Scala or Greatest Hits though:

Do I need to use a specific stream? This is the one I have at the moment: http://edge-bauermz-12-gos1.sharp-st...stmidlands.mp3

Scala should work ... however, the URL that you gave for the Greatest Hits (East Midlands) won't because I was not looking for sharp-stream.com URLs.
So if your Scala URL is in the same style then it would also fail.

However, if you search for Scala in TuneIn or Radio.Net then it should work (it has been one of my main test stations).

I hope to have a new version out later that should handle more of the regional ones (including the sharp-stream varients).

I have just worked out why Greatest Hits (East Midlands) would not work even if I recognised the domain name of the stream that you use.

For the "Greatest Hits" stations they have what they call "stationSplits" where each regional station is listed as a sub-item ... but without the full station details.
They do the same for "Hits Radio".

This will take a bit longer to resolve.

0.0.1b now uploaded - which should now work for the regional Greatest Hits stations.

Is the only difference the adverts?

    Edit:
Been listening to a couple of GH stations and looks like it is the same music everywhere but different DJ chat plus localised news/adverts.
Must have been a challenge to setup but saves on music planners etc.

GHR is a national station with regional adverts, news and traffic. They also have to, by their licence, broadcast some content that is purely regional. This used to be the Drivetime slot 4 - 7PM but as that has been handed over to Simon Mayo the regional shows are now 1 - 4pm. There may be other instances. Simon Mayo back on Drivetime has been a huge coup for GHR and millions of disenchanted Radio 2 listeners have switched loyalty as he is such a stellar presenter.

I search for the links with the highest quality and the one I am using is a paltry 112 kbps whilst some of the other links are down at 48kbps. My Scala stream is this one: https://stream-mz.planetradio.co.uk/scalahigh.aac 112kbps or this http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/bauerfla...lahigh.aac.m3u 128kbps. First has no artwork, second does.
