What tags are you trying to read? Anything not in comments or the like?

I have 2 non-standard tags and both are currently of type TXXX.

One is for the country from which the artist/band come from and this is present in most of my files.

The other is for tracks which don't belong to an album. These could be singles, EPs, live radio sessions, etc. Currently my "Now Playing" screen shows "no album" as this tag is blank but they still come from somewhere - just not from an album. (I think this is a general flaw with LMS as it shows everything without an album tag together as one huge "No Album" collection! At every library scan it then allocates a random cover.jpg to it.)

Currently I use Erland's Custom Scan plugin to read these tags and allow browsing in the web interface or android app. I don't think this plugin has a CLI interface for getting the tags and I suspect Erland is far too busy with his new projects to add functionality to it now.

Ideally I would like to access these existing tags rather than re-tag my library!

This is the only big thing which would make my 'Now Playing' screen perfect.

When you bring up the trackinfo page (or menu) on a track, then drill
down to "Show Tags", would these values be shown?

Are you trying to display the values of these tags in the web UI in some
way, in addition to use them for Custom Browse?

Yes, it's for a remote Now Playing screen in the style of this:

Just to display on a TV, no buttons.

I knew it was too good to be true! It appeared to work fine during testing on a PC, but in service it is very shaky and sometimes fails to retrieve the tags and regularly crashes the browser.

How does the web interface read the tags in files which are not scanned by LMS?

Is there a JSON method to do the same which can be used with SqueezeJS?

The web interface doesn't scan or read tags. It's the server which does
this job. And it does it for all files which are played. It just doesn't
store the data in the database for those files which are not supposed to
    be part of the library.

What "same"? I thought the problem were the special tags we're not
dealing with. Are they shown when you bring up the trackinfo menu on
such an item, then browse to "Show Tags"?

Yes, if I click on a song in the web interface and pick 'view tags' I see my non-standard tags.

The data is available to the web interface and I would like to be able to display the same information through SqueezeJS on my own HTML page - I just don't know how to do it.

    Any help would be appreciated!
