Is there any way to visually distinguish a Squeezebox from a Squeezebox2? I know the Wiki says that "all changes were under the hood," but I wonder if there might be some label/SN/model/color difference that would tell one from the other...

Check the label on the underside. "squeezebox" = SB1, "squeezebox2" = SB2.
Watch out for eBayers trying to confuse the two...Current: SB2, Boom (PQP3 - late beta, PQP1 - early beta), SBC (early beta), Squeezebox Radio (PB1 - early beta), Squeezebox Touch (late beta)
Selling: Transporter
Sold: SB3, Duet

SB1 has "Bass" and "Treble" controls under the "Audio" settings (if your labels have fallen off!)

The screens are also different. The original SB1 had a character-only display, later upgraded to graphics-capable in the SB1G and SB2.
