    SqueezeCenter - Sync

Ok - I've looked but can't seem to find how to stop various players from sync'ing. I have a SB3 playing and added two SoftSqueeze players. Sync'ing worked. It wasn't clear from the interface how to detach a specific unit and/or all units from being sync'd.

Hopefully this wasn't obvious in some FAQ or instructions but I did search a bit...

So I found one option via the remote on the SoftSqueeze/Settings menu.

It would be good to have something on the SqueezeCenter console since you can add them, you should be able to selectively remove them.

Also, I've removed the Settings menu from my SB3 to avoid a novice from tinkering.. Thus the Sync submenu item should be selected as an option to enable on the SB3 menu without all the other settings...

If by the console you mean the web interface, you should be able to go to Settings - Players - (select the player) - (select the "Audio" menu). The top few settings all relate to sync.

SC7 only. No need to go to Settings.

Select "Synchronise" from the "choose Player" drop down at Top RHS. You will get a popup window.

If you want to sync players - check the players to be synced.

If you want to unsync players - uncheck the players to be taken out of sync.

    Then click "Synchronize".

    Hi bpa -

I tried that method. It made some sense since that was how I got them to sync in the first place. Unfortunately, unchecking and clicking sync did nothing. I have originally thought that the two players were no playing the same stream but independently, but when I press pause, change tracks, anything... they remain sync'd.

Of course, from a UI design perspective, I thing it would be a little more intuitive if there was an more obvious "unsync" button. On the player side, using the remote the unsync process seems a little more obvious albeit buried in the settings...

Maybe it is a bug in SC7? I would be surprised if this function wasn't being tested rigorously.

sync: "join up with" vs. "take control of"

One factor here may be that Logitech introduced a new "synchronize" paradigm in SC7. See Alan's comment on http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=6806

Before SC7, to "sync" Player A to Player B meant to make Player A play whatever was currently on Player B. I call this the "join up with" model. Player A joins up with B (and whatever other players might already be synced with B). With SC7, that's still the case in the IR remote UI, and in the Player Settings of the Web UI.

But the new Web main page and the Squeezebox Controller have a completely different paradigm that's the opposite of "join up with". The new Web UI and the Controller have a "take control of" paradigm. In the new Web main page or the SBC interface, to "sync" Player A to Player B means to make Player B play whatever is currently on Player A. Player A takes control of B, effectively discarding B's playlist, etc.

I do not know why Logitech introduced the "take control of" paradigm in SC7, but I dislike[0] both
    1) the "take control of" paradigm -- see my comment #5 on that bugzilla ticket
    2) the fact that SC7 uses the same language in both "join up with" and "take control of" situations

[0] Sheesh, I seem to be using the verb "dislike" a lot lately -- I still like the Squeeze platform a lot, it's just that SC7 has many changes and additions, not all of which I like.
