Smile "Clear library and rescan everything" - problem

    Hi :-)

Well I am a newbie so this is probably simple to the more experienced.

    I am running :

    SlimServer Version: 6.5.1 - 11206 - Linux - EN - iso-8859-1
    Server IP address: 192.168.1.103
    Perl Version: 5.8.8 armv5b-softfloat-linux
    MySQL Version: 4.1.20

on an NSLU2. It doesnt work great, but it works. I am getting a new NAS in a couple of weeks (Synology DS207+)

My question is : Doesnt "Clear library and rescan everything" mean that slimserver empties its database and only finds music in the musicfolder ?
When I installed slimserver I ran some tests pointing to directories with mp3s that I no longer want in my database. But if I change the path to the music folder it still finds all the "old" files that I no longer want to play.
Its annoying when I browse my music using the remote.

    Hope someone can help me

    Thanks

    Henrik, Denmark

do you have a playlist folder set as well? Any playlists that still
point to the 'unwanted' files will still show up in the scan.

Similarly if you are set to connect to iTunes or MusicIP for library
info. All of it is scanned on a clear and rescan.

    Thanks for reply kdf

I havent made any playlists yet. I am still in the "organizing fase". Not a lot of files in the library.
I am not using itunes or MusicIP.
I rip and tag with Mediamonkey. Musicfolder contains only .flac .

How do I solve this ?
I dont want those 128 kb mp3s on my SB :-)

    Thanks

Check the fold path for m3u, cue, pls files.
When you do see those mp3 files after a scan, check the songinfo for
those files, make note of the folder location and see what's at that
    location.
You can also try using that location information and use it in a
folder search for files containing that text.

    clear cache manually?

I get similar to this one my XP-pro install: If I don't manually delete the file and cover art cache, prior to doing a "clear dB and rescan", then the database seems to 'accumulate' file info, in may case mostly artist info I was trying to update.

I don't know where the cache is on a linux install tho, perhaps doing a 'find' for slimserver and cache in the file structure.

Your problem might be related to the version of MySQL - on many of the NSLU2 implementation innodb is not part of MySQL. Normally this seems to make no difference but perhaps you have an issue here with two users of the databases not being able to lock records.

    My advice.

    1. Change the music & playlist directories defined for Slimserver.
    2. Stop Slimserver
    3. Delete the database
    4. Start Slimserver - check music folder directory is new location.
    5. Tell Slimserver to clear & rescan the database.
