    Jive idea for better searching

Would it be posible to impliment some kind of predictive searching to speed it up - what i mean is as you enter a search term in it auto-completes the search term for you (in light grey) based apon whats in you music collection?

for example, you have typed in "cold" and it apears as coldplay (if you have coldplay in your collection), which you could then use without the whole term being entered, or carry on entering letters. See what i mean?

Or just show a list of albums (or whatever) starting with the sequence of letters you'd entered so far. You could either continue to enter letters directly (if the list was too long), or move over into that column and select what you want.

Isn't this exactly the current behaviour? Except that you don't see that column before moving right...

But that's the key feature! The whole point is to avoid having to enter so many characters with the wheel, which is pretty cumbersome. So some kind of autocomplete feature would be nice.

Also the search looks for matches anywhere in the string, not just at the start - which personally I don't like. It's good sometimes if you can't quite remember a name, but it's bad for more routine navigation.

Actually, here's another idea. On the iphone, you have a column of letters to the right of every list. Clicking on a letter jumps you instantly to that part of the list. (See http://common.ziffdavisinternet.com/...15&sz=1,00.jpg .)

Could the jive have two modes when you're displaying long artists/albums lists - a standard one where the wheel scrolls one item at a time, and an accelerated mode where you scroll through first letters? You'd switch back and forth with one of the buttons.

I think thats basically what they are working now for release next week. Except instead of switching between lists with a button, the way is runs is based on how long/fast the wheel is turned - at least thats what i hope to see.
