Just out of interest, does anyone know what the gain of the antenna in the squeezebox 3 are? Just wondering for comparison.

Antenna gain
If it had gain, it would be directional, and you would have to orient the unit. Omnidirectional antennas (or approximately omni) do not have (much) gain. Gain is not free, it is a result of concentrating the antenna pattern in favored directions.

It could have multiple antennas, but I guess it does not ...
In a rich scattering environment, the gain from an omni like 5 dBi or so is spread out anyway and does not provide any observable gain as NatureDude said.

It has 2 internal antennas like these:

That's the internal secondary antenna in the Squeezebox2, which has a primary (replaceable!) antenna on a reverse SMA connector.
The Transporter has two very large external antennas on such connectors.Current: SB2, Boom (PQP3 - late beta, PQP1 - early beta), SBC (early beta), Squeezebox Radio (PB1 - early beta), Squeezebox Touch (late beta)
Selling: Transporter
Sold: SB3, Duet
