    Last.fm purchased by CBS

Much anticipated, but looks like it's finally happened...

Good to see that Felix and RJ will still be around for a while though.

Good for them. I'm not at all interested in MySpace and the like, but last.fm is superb. They deserve success, and I'm sure that if the present team stays in control they won't allow it to become a compromised corporate tool.

    s/last\.fm/slimdevices/g
    s/CBS/Logitech/g

a little Perl humor on this (possibly very sad) news. I've been posting to Last.FM for more than 4 years, more than 30,000 tracks now. Everything I own posts to it...my Squeezeboxen post to it, Amarok posts to it, etc. I'd be really bummed if CBS screwed it up.

there's so much cool stuff to be done with this kind of data too...for example, top 25 artists listened to over the last year:

    Hey, that's cool.... I'm at 20% mainstreamness - didn't realize I was so 'weird'!
It would be neat to get a rolling mainstreamness chart, to see how my weirdness varies!

When I ran this for the music my family listens to on the slim
at home, I think there were only 2 artists >20%. If you listen
to enough kids music, for example, you end up at 4.8%. :-)

My personal choices clocked in at 8.6%.

    Cool find.
