I know this subject has already been discussed to death, but I couldn't find an answer on this particular question - are there any advantages of ripping CD to separate tracks? SB seems to handle images with cue sheets very well, and such images are actually easier to manage...
Everyone however seems to keep separate tracks - what am I missing?

Many people (like me) prefer to 'browse music folder'...?
(I wonder why people bother with that cue-img stuff, it's not like
you're using audio CD's anymore, are you?)

Ah, you're an audiophile!
You're probably spoiled by the Nova's special distortion

I never use cue files, but I hardly use BMF.
It's much easier to search for tracks or artists. Also, this often turns
up tracks I didn't know I had in the depths of my collection.
For example, I wanted to play "The Leaving of Liverpool" by Steve
Tilston (from the "Of Many Hands" album). So, I searched for "Leaving of
Liverpool". It returned two results - the Steve Tilston track and the
same song performed by The Pogues (from the "Red Roses for Me" album). I
didn't even know I had that track. I would never have found it if I were
using BMF.

BMF doesn't mean you can't use search.

hi 325xi,
Me too.
I use a single WAV file and CUE sheet generated by EAC. It's so easy and works very well IMHO. I also do a "save as" cover.jpg from CDNOW while the CD is being ripped.
But I guess that the beauty of Slimserver, it allows so many options that everyone is happy, well almost everyone.

While I don't use images and cue sheets myself (only came across the idea well into ripping my collection to individual flacs), the purists could point out that images preserve the exact gaps of silence between tracks without attaching them to the individual tracks so that those gaps are there when you play the whole album but not if you sequence random tracks. That's my understanding at least. Please correct me if I am wrong!

True, but I hate them nevertheless.
I hate them so much that I wrote a little tool to chop them
(WAV/FLAC/APE) into bloody little FLAC pieces and set the tags from the
CUE sheet.

Hey Peter, if you use the "Browse Music Folder" for searching for your music then I can unerstand why you hate them so much. I don't know why you prefer this method for searching (classical music??) as I find the Browse Albums and Browse Artists perfect for my colletion. I do use "Browse Music Folder" for those miscellaneous temporary mpegs and podcasts that I download. This saves me from doing a rescan.
Thanks for the perl script, it will come in handy if need to convert to the "flac individual track" model. So much work for so little code.
