    No audio from Squeezebox

You should also just try plugging in a cheap pair of headphones to the
headphone jack and see if that is working.

I've tried 3~4 albums full of mp3 songs (with no special characters),
they all play fine via the slimserver from other hosts (WMP, xmms,
mplayer), just not from the squeezebox.

Good idea, I'll try that soon.

Yes, the headphone jack output works great. So, we've *officially*
ruled out any communication problems with the slimserver. I've already
tested the cables with a known working set, and tried known working
alternative audio inputs on the "stereo". The only possible remaining
iteration is the RCA outputs on the squeezebox.
