I guess that this must be a Firefox bug but it is the first time I have come across it. If I leave the web interface open in Firefox, refresing the various frames periodically as it does, over time the size of my Firefox process grows until I have to kill it. Is there something about the way the refresh stuff is written that it provokes a memory leak in the browser?

Firefox leaks memory and if you hunt around on google you'll find it's a known issue unfortunately
I've never had to quit it tho and that's leaving slimserver open with it refreshing itself for hours.

Re: Web interface, Firefox, memory growth
Generally, I believe it has been found that it is Firefox that is causing
the leaks. There is some anecdotal evidence that 6.5 has improved this by
not using certain 'buggy' scripting techniques for refreshing on Firefox.
You don't say what version you are running for any of the products involved
(Firefox, SlimServer) so others may not have many more specific suggestions.
You might find that Firefox by itself doesn't cause the leak but one of your
installed extensions does. Firefox cannot guard against a buggy extension.

A couple of bits of version info:
SlimServer Version: 6.5.0 - 9916 - Linux - EN - utf8
Perl Version: 5.8.8 i386-linux-thread-multi
MySQL Version: 5.0.21-standard
running on Linux FC5.
Firefox 1.5.0.7 under Windows XP and on Linux FC5.
The 'leak' is progressive over a very long period and seems significantly worse on Linux than on XP (although it may be that the XP machine has more memory and I just havn't noticed). I am sure that it is related to the caching of multiple page histories in multiple tabs.

I see the same thing. I've reverted to using IE for SS (6.2.1) access.
But it's certainly not just SS that does this with FF. Pretty much any auto refreshing page seems to make FF grow to a lesser or greater extent.

I've had similar problems with FF on XP, but never with Slimserver (I rarely leave it open for long enough). I have however noticed that FF memory usage is much improved in the last few point releases.

What extensions are you using? My Firefox is usually between 100 and 150 MB,
with Searchbar Autosizer, Download Manager Tweak, TabX, and Session Manager.
I average 4-10 open tabs.
