stuttering at the start of each track

I complained about this before, and no one ever answered it. I am now running 6.5 in SUSE 10.1. When I play many pieces, there is a stutter a second or two into the start of each track. The same tracks play flawlessly in WinAmp.

What causes this? Is there a way to fix this? It is VERY annoying.

    Thanks,
    Jim

There's two possible causes, AFAIK -- you're transcoding from one format
into another, and the transcoder is having issues; or, your network is dodgy
    for the task at hand.

The former is relatively rare, but does happen; the latter is very common
and usually takes several days to adequately diagnose, most of which is
spent in the Kubler-Ross stages of denial and anger.

    Doubt both

My tracks are all mp3s, so what are they being transcoded to?

It also stutters on my softsqueeze via my hardwired 100 Mbps network, so I doubt it is the network also.

So it wasn't one of the FAQs... have you looked at the log file? Got any
    plugins?

    log files

Lots of log file and a bunch of plugins. But the plugins should not do anything when I play a CD.
I have alien BBC, XM, WeatherTime, and the ones that came with it. I also tried Transitions, but it made no difference.

AlienBBC is asking mplayer to transcode this RealAudio stream, and it's
having issues. I don't use AlienBBC much, so you'll probably have the best
luck asking the Alien guys directly on the Plugins list. The rest of that
    log is ignorable noise.

I have also experienced this on several different machines and installations. Currently I have the slimserver.deb of slimserver 6.5 insatlled onto Ubuntu Dapper on a P4 2.4G with 1gig of ram running Softsqueeze 3.2.1 locally. Since the connection is "localhost" I cannot understand how this could be a network issue as seems to be most commonly suspected. I could be wrong, though. As I say this seems to happen on every single machine I install to no matter the version of server or softsqueeze. I think I did overcome this at some point with squeezeslave on windows but I think there were other issues with squeezeslave so I abandoned that. I've upped squeezeslave's buffer from 128000 to 628000 but now I'm getting more interrrupts.

Here's some debug output that corresponds to the interrupts:

    Still having these problems

I get the delayed write messages too on softsqueeze. But I also hear the stutter on my squeezebox.
