Shoutcast's directory service has been experiencing some problems lately. If you're unable to tune in to some stations, this is most likely the reason.

I am getting nothing today except RSS. Should I not still be able to get ambient sounds?

I'm not sure what you mean? As long as it's not in the Shoutcast menu, you should be fine.

The volume was turned all the way down. Turns out the volume on the JVC TV remote affects the SB3 volume also. Anything I can do about that?

Yep, disable the JVC remote under Preferences.

If you mean in SlimServer I get player not found. I moved the SB3 to a condo where I am using only internet radio. The Linksys access point has Data Encryption Type: WEP 64-bit which I entered in the SB3 ok. Do I need to do something else?

Actually i'm experiencing problems with Shoutcast radios since the last SN upgrade. I had this problem some times ago but in the last weeks was all ok until the SN upgrade... i can tune in shoutcast webradio with Slimserver, but not with Squeezenetwork so i doubt it's shoutcast fault...
The error message i get is always the same: "No items found in playlist".
Thx, Paolo

Shoutcast is a bit out of our control, but I will look at this once I fix some more important issues with the performance on SN.
