    DAAP support?

I was looking through the daapd page
(http://deleet.de/projekte/daap/daapd/) and thought of asking if there
were any plans to support DAAP (the native iTunes streaming protocol)
    in the Slimserver software.

I find myself leaving iTunes running alongside the Slimserver more and
more often so that I can listen to a different playlist on my iBook
(and yes, I could open the Slimserver URL inside iTunes and set up a
new playlist via the web interface, but this way it's so much more
    convenient...)

The way I see it, this could be done in two stages:

    a) as a simple daapd-like server (the protocol doesn't seem too
complex, but hey, I'm not the one doing the code)
    b) as a DAAP-to-Slim proxy (so that you could re-publish music you have
spread across different computers to your SliMP3/Squeezebox)

In terms of technical hurdles, besides implementing DAAP streaming
(which is probably the toughest), both options require Rendezvous
support (and I'm not sure how well the current Perl bindings for it
work). The Slimserver already maintains a global track list, so serving
it up in the DAAP format should be feasible (but then again, I'm not
    the one doing the coding...).

In terms of return for SlimDevices, a) is not much of a sales driver,
but b) would be great for folk with music spread across several
computers. iTunes works fine in Windows (my server is a Windows box),
and having the Slimserver aggregate everything and serving a unified
track list to a SliMP3/Squeezebox seems like a nice feature to me...

Anyway, keep up the good work. The Squeezebox looks like a sure winner
(I've been handing out the URL to every music buff in the office), and
I'll be upgrading to 5.0 soon...

    Regards,

    DAAP support?

We're working with Apple on getting a license to do this now.
