Soft Touch Remote: Off Boresight Performance?

Squeezebox and SLIMP3 are totally different WRT how the boards mount,
the location of the lens, and the angle. There were also two different
    IR sensors used in SLIMP3.

Older SLIMP3s had a "short" IR sensor - it was mounted to the main PCB
    and nestled
with the black "eye" of the receiver just about even with the display
module. More recent SLIMP3 has a special taller IR sensor which sticks
out in front of the display, and this improves the reception angle
    quite a bit.

In squeezebox, not only is the receiver right up close to the lens, but
also the lens has plenty of clearance all around. So it has a very wide
    angle.
