The sextet period is considered the "darkest" sounding among Piazzolla's work.
Try to get some cds from the quintet period (maybe the more "perfect" group for Piazzolla's music), the sound of songs is more clear or open. The Quintet existed in two different periods:
roughly 1960-1970 and 1978-1987. The last quintet albums have a better sound (Zero Hour, La Camorra, etc), but all of them are highly recommended.
Tango:Zero Hour is maybe his most "known" album by US people,as it was the first one having an US label, and thats when he started touring the US regularly (mid 80's).
