"I think if you removed three books from the lefthand stack and moved it backward seven inches it would improve your soundstage immensely."

Fiction seems to absorb the transients, which is bothersome.

"I take it your area never had any earthquakes or tremors..."

Well, they say one is due. And, as usual with these predictions, it's gonna be a big one...

I live about 5 blocks away from the 125th Street fault mentioned in the article.

    janly,

I could not help but to notice the wood ceiling, walls and floors. With those giant hornspeakers and SWs I am curious what kind of acoustic treatment might be outside of the photo area?

Not to be offensive or start a flame war, but the reason I am asking is that hornspeakers tend to sound quite bright to my ears and I would imagine with a highly reflective room and no visible acoustic treatments that those qualities might get exaggerated. I was curious what you might be doing to offset that potential, or is it not an issue with that particular room?

Whenever I've listened to the Duos, I've been so drawn into the music that any such flaws are meaningless. One of the (actually no, the) most intense speakers I've ever heard. Not sure I could really live with them (and I know the wife couldn't!), but absolutely amazing in the ways that really matter. Sod room conditioning, listen to the music!

Regarding room treatments and the Duos, this is from the FAQ on their website:

The Avantgardes employ a controlled dispersion pattern. Approximately 85% of the sound reaches the ear directly. There's no need for room treatments to absorb or diffuse sidewall and ceiling reflections, because there aren't many.

Not so pretty - but it does the job! Ancient concrete blocks necessary to isolate everything from the tatami floor.
