    Windows GUI FLAC Encoder?

I am just starting to encode to flac and would like to know of a good gui flac encoder as I don't want to mess around with command line. I will be encoding from the CD, not WAV.

    Thx,
    Dan

The regular flac distribution for windows includes a simple GUI.

If you're ripping to FLAC, you'll probably want to use Exact Audio Copy. It can do the FLAC conversion automatically for you. There are a few guides out there to help set this all up - use Google or search these forums.

So you need both a ripper to do digital extraction from the CD, plus an encoder, correct? The GUI you're looking for will likely be in the ripping software, rather than in the encoder. I've always trusted and used EAC, then have it automatically encode using the command-line flac v1.1.2. The only other ripper I've really used, since I use Plextor drives, is PlexTools.

EAC is ancient at this point, having been developed (and continuing to be, albeit at a glacially slow pace) by a college student in his spare time. The user interface, while workable, is somewhat amateurish, unpolished, and often very confusing. In comparison to other available ripping and encoding software, it's also pretty bare-bones. That said, EAC does the job of ripping CDs very well and I'm not sure I'd trust many other products at this point. If you decide to go that direction, you should follow some of the excellent guides to configuring EAC.

    Pat's guide is great: http://www.pfarrell.com/music/slimserver/tips.html

His page has all the links you'll need, but minimally, you'll need

    EAC: http://www.exactaudiocopy.de

Go to the downloads page and download the latest version (currently 0.95pb5)

Then you'll need the flac encoder:

    http://flac.sourceforge.net

Once again, download the latest version, currently 1.1.2.

Follow Pat's guide and you're off. You'll run into snags, and you'll pull your hair out a bit, but you'll get there.

No doubt issues like tagging of files will be the biggest bear. Use the instructions at http://www.saunalahti.fi/cse/EAC to set up EAC to pass parameters to flac.exe so that flac can tag your files.

Is there a Windows program that can convert flac to ogg in batch? That is whole directory structure \artist\cd title\-tracks-
for many artists so I can simpy encode to flac then have a program convert all my flac files at once?

Foobar2000 will do a batch conversion (preserving tags) with a little bit of setting up.

See this thread for more info - http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/...howtopic=32807
