    sigh.. from bad to worse

5.x had a few quirks from my point of view....

I just upgraded to latest version of 6 to find that although the overall numbers of files found seems to be right, songs and artists that I KNOW are in there do not show up.

Search can't find 'em, and browsing to some albums will show that some tracks that were there in 5.4.1-1 are now missing.

downgrading to 5.4.1-1 has resurrected those files, but I'm certainly no longer considering getting any more squeezeboxes/squeezebox2s as the software seems to be getting worse.

I can't fully appreciate the scale of the problems as I don't have the time to examine the nearly 15000 files to see exactly how many aren't showing up, but I hope that the problems are addressed soon....

    Kipper,

With all of the useful, specific diagnostic information you've
provided I'm sure everyone will be jockeying for position to help you
    out. Not.

You might get better results if you could provide information about
the files that are missing. There's probably something common to all
of them (tag issues) that is causing it but without that information
everyone will just have to guess why you are having issues. If you
could make one of the files available (preferably a small one) by
attaching it to a bug (http://bugs.slimdevices.com) then we can get
    the ball rolling!

    HTH,

    Ben

Can you provide any details about those songs that are missing? Are you using
itunes, moodlogic or musicmagic? Are they located on a mapped drive, local
    drive. Have you checked permissions?

you may also want to consider running from the command line, adding --d_info as
a command argument so that you can see the song info extraction as you rescan.
its a lot of info, but may highlight the exact problem

Also, there have been a lot of improvements made since 6.0.1 (latest official
release) and I believe a 6.0.2 release is expected soon. You can try out one
of the nightly builds and see if this gives you better results. There are two
types of nightly builds. Stable and Developers. Stable build is what will be
6.0.2, and developers builds will be 6.1. both are located here:

    cheers,

first couple of files I've investigated have accents on at least one character in the song title and filename.

    Hink˛
    KamandÚ

both of those just don't show up in 6.x but do in 5.x

what did you use to tag those files? Whatever it is probably doesn't
    speak Unicode.

Or it is part of a SB font problem which appeared in the 6.x stream.
I have unicode tags which appear on the SB fine in 5.x but don't in 6.x

don't think it's a problem with the file/encoding etc. as it works fine in version 5.x... must be summat borked in the code for 6 that just doesn't understand it..

i.e. shows up in both web interface and on the player, whereas on 6.x it doesn't even get listed

did anyone ever get to the bottom of the problem with accented characters causing files to be missed from 6.x?

Did you ever file a bug or supply a file that breaks it?
