I think it's easier than you think: as soon as you play a song, you create
a playlist. When you open the web interface, you'll see the current
playlist on the right. Once you've got a selection of songs you'd like to
save, you can do this from the web interface or using the SavePlaylist.pm
plugin. You'll find it in the the "Browse playlist" menu.

This is a newbie question, though I'm not a newbie, but haven't
    needed to do this before.

The Squeezebox instructions talk about adding songs to playlists,
browsing playlists, etc. but nowhere can I see basic instructions on
either creating a playlist from scratch or saving the current
playlist (either on the Squeezebox or via the Web interface). Must be
easy, but have I just failed to read the right page or is this not
    explicitly mentioned?

A request for Alien BBC, but I don't know if it is more trouble than
    it is worth to do.

On the Squeezebox itself (doesn't matter so much for the Web
interface) it would be nice to be able to move some of the menu items
around. In particular (and this must be easier than doing it for
general menu items), once I have created a playlist or playlists for
my favourite programmes, it would be useful to have the AlienStream
Playlists item at the top of the menu.

By the way, as Alienstream is no longer being used, perhaps the name
    of this item needs changing.

I think moving the menus around would be quite hard (unless you want to
    hack the plugin.pm module!).

How about giving you the option to remember the last menu you selected.
That way if you always select from the playlist this is displayed
first. The AlienStream name is a hangup from the past - I think we
should change it to "Alien Playlist".

Incidently did you know you can have sub-folders in the AlienStream
folder and these are displayed in a hierarchical menu from the top
    level menu.

Sure, just a thought. Not worth pursuing if it's difficult.

    That sounds useful.

    Yes, it would be sensible.

    Useful.

How do you do it from the Web interface?

OK, I hadn't turned that on, as up to now I had no need of it.

right side of the web interface (default skin) below the 'now playing' section,
you shoudl see "current playlist: save | download | clear"

the 'save' link will only be present if you have a writable playlist folder set
    in server settings.
