Radio & VPN - non numerical address

Not wanting to expose my server to the net, I've got a VPN running and can access the Pi that runs my LMS server remotely. I can access the LMS web interface and stream music from home on my phone using Squeezeplayer. Because I don't have a fixed IP address, I'm using a DNS hostname from no-ip.com in the format XXX.YYYY@ZZZZZZZ.COM

I'd really like to be able to connect a spare Squeezebox Radio when I'm travelling to be able to listen to my own library (plus access to Qobuz etc) Is there a way to do this?
    Many thanks
    Jeremy

If you're really using VPN, then your external IP address or host name
doesn't matter to LMS or the players. You'd still reach LMS using its
internal IP address. Or am I getting something wrong? You'd need the
external host name only if you exposed LMS - which you said you wanted
to avoid, and which you really, really should not do.

    I understand what you mean.
Unfortunately the Radio can only be connected via an IP address not a host name.
To use a Radio on your travels you would need to connect the network it is on to the VPN which would mean taking a router capable of making the VPN connection with you OR looking up the IP address of your VPN each time and pointing your Radio at that.
A better option may be to use a Bluetooth speaker with your phone as that already works.

I think you're right & have found a Kitsound Boombar bluetooth speaker that I'd forgotten about. Will use that on next trips and see how I get on
    Cheers
