1. "Summary, for testing, I prefer a LMS and server independent player" > will VLC do (I copy paste the url).?
2. "ideally a h/w Sb player" > I have a second Boom. will that do.?
3. "but secondary squeezelite on a non-LMS system" > I have Squeezelite-X on a second PC [it has no SQbox or LMS software installed] is that ok.?
AND
4. by "not indirect" you mean the URL of the source, without any 3rd party plug-in or pass-thru.? SO "http://ice1.somafm.com/groovesalad-128-mp3" is good > but "https://tunein.com/radio/SomaFM-Groove-Salad-s2591/" is not..?
Thank you for hand holding me with this.. cheers CD

From bpa's earlier message
To stream direct
(i) stream - needs to be a HTTP/MP3 - not HTTPS or redirected to HTTPS. It should be a real stream, not a streamed file or a streamed podcast (i.e. not fixed duration). AAC stream can be used but only for newer players with AAC support.
(ii) Player is either connected to mysqueezebox.com or LMS. Ideally LMS so logging can be done.
(iii) If player is connected to LMS - make sure it is playing direct (i.e WebUI Setting/Player/Audio/Streaming Method ->Direct )
Also - yes - avoid using TuneIn for these tests.Paul Webster

quick question - you never identified what sb device(s) you were using. @bpa guessed a radio because of your post on another thread. "second boom" would indicate both are booms? Can you please clarify? It might not matter, but it would be good to know. Some players have unique architecture/behavior that may contribute/identify symptoms.

I meant a LMS player but not running on the same servers as the LMS system.
VLC is good for comparison to playing a stream on a player. VLC gives certainty about the URL being played and provides good logging unlike playing a stream within a browser.
2. "ideally a h/w Sb player" > I have a second Boom. will that do.?
3. "but secondary squeezelite on a non-LMS system" > I have Squeezelite-X on a second PC [it has no SQbox or LMS software installed] is that ok.?
4. by "not indirect" you mean the URL of the source, without any 3rd party plug-in or pass-thru.? SO "http://ice1.somafm.com/groovesalad-128-mp3" is good > but "https://tunein.com/radio/SomaFM-Groove-Salad-s2591/" is not..?
By using a ice1.somafm.com URL - there is no ambiguity - it is always HTTP and always MP3.

stream playback
http://icecast.thisisdax.com/Capital >>> rebuffering on desktop squeezelite PC within 30seconds - plays then crashes LMC within 30seconds, restart PC required > stops in VLC after 50 seconds - very fast to start
http://stream.live.vc.bbcmedia.co.uk/bbc_world_service >>> rebuffering on desktop Squeezelite PC within 90seconds > rebuffering on LMS within 90seconds > stops on VLC after 50seconds
http://ice1.somafm.com/groovesalad-128-mp3 >>> rebuffering on desktop Squeezelite PC within 120seconds > rebuffering on LMS within 120seconds > stops on VLC after 90seconds - last longer
http://stream.live.vc.bbcmedia.co.uk/bbc_6music >>> rebuffering on desktop squeezelite PC within 30seconds > rebuffering on LMS within 30seconds > stops on VLC after 40seconds
http://stream.radioparadise.com/aac-32 >>> rebuffering on desktop squeezelite PC within 30seconds > rebuffering on LMS within 30seconds > stops on VLC after 40 seconds - fast to start
All the links I got from you were saved to mysqueezebox.com first the opened in the three players [1. desktop PC Squeezlite, 2. Boom thru LMS and 3. VLC on the same squeezelite PC copy/pasted url]

which units in use
no probs
two booms - ethernet
three radios - wifi
receiver - wifi
LMS is set to "direct streaming" for every player.. confirmed
So like when Capital Radio crashes the LMS, all units are DISCONNECTED regardless of their playing status, on-off, local media or stream, everything stops and PC restart is required.

That is all very strange.
I just tried the Radio Paradise stream URL in VLC for Windows and it worked fine - and I left it playing for 2 songs and then I stopped it.
No problems reported.
So this looks like a networking problem in your home network or possibly your ISP.
in VLC do you see and errors reported under VLC/Tools/Messages ?
You can also increase the log level in there from the default of 0 (errors) to 1 or 2 (debug).Paul Webster

Since all station have problem on all players.
How is the PC running VLC conencted to Local network ?
How is the PC running squeezelite connected tpo Local network ?
Is the PC running Squeezelitr the same as VLC ?
If the PC are networks using Wifi - can you test them with wired connection to router ?
Time to simplify and concentrate on just two scenarios
Can you get a log of playing the BBC 6 music on VLC.
1. Start VLC
2. Open the messages window from Tools/Message menu
3. Change verbosity to "2 (debug)"
4. Play the BBC 6 Music URL
5. When stations stops, wait 1 min, then save the message using "Save as.." button in Messages - zip and attach to a post.
To debug Capital Station - crash.
1. Delete server.log to get rid of old messages.
2. Enable logging (WebUI Settings/Advanced/Logging) player.source, player.streaming, player.streaming.direct and player.streaming remote all to INFO - remember to click Apply
3. Play the Capital Station UK URL y pasting into the Tune-In URL and start playing.
4a. When PC has locked up - start Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL) and Kill both Slimserver processes
4b. If Task manager cannot be run reboot PC
5. When control is returned, copy server.log, zip and attach to a post.

Additional screenshots from during the logging process
Here are three screenshots
Capital radio - message immediately at start of play URL.jpg = message was displayed on the LMS PC immediately I clicked 'play' of the Capital Radio link in LMS
Capital radio - message immediately at start of play URL 2.jpg = repeated the same as above.
Capital radio - win10 task manager after LMS crash.jpg = resulting win10 task manager processess once Capital had crashed LMS
