piCorePlayer on Raspberry Pi 3A+, USB DAC

    Hi all

I've been running LMS in a Docker container on a Raspberry Pi 4 for several months now, and it works beautifully. My players are a combination of Chromecast Audio, Airplay, Squeezelite-X and a repurposed Android device. I use LMS Material Skin as controller.

I am about to take the next step and add a better quality player consisting of an external USB DAC (SMSL Sanskrit 10th MkII) and piCorePlayer running on a Raspberry Pi 3A+, via wi-fi.

The router will be in the next room, so I don't anticipate any signal problems. The DAC will feed my old, but still good stereo Harman Kardon amp.

I really just want to check if this combo would be ok (e.g. no hidden nasty's with the Pi 3A+). The Pi will be completely headless - I'll manage it from my Windows 10 desktop using Putty (I'm quite comfortable with the Linux command line).

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Slot,

It takes me 5 minutes to setup pCP and a Topping E30 using wifi so I would guess the "SMSL Sanskrit 10th MkII" would be similar.

So it is probably quicker to just try it.

pCP uses a web interface so usually putty shouldn't be necessary.

See Add a Topping E30 USB DAC

    regards
    Greg

Thanks. After re-reading some reviews on AudioScienceReview and Archimago's Musings, I changed my mind about the DAC, and am now going with a Topping D10s - which also has USB input.

Great - have ordered the Pi 3A+, so looking forward to getting everything up and running.

piCorePlayer on Raspberry Pi 3A+, USB DAC

Is it possible to set a static IP for a piCorePlayer that connects via wi-fi?

I can't find anything in the doco, but I did find an old (2016 I think) thread on this forum that says it's only possible for Ethernet connections.

    Thanks.

Not sure if it affects the 3A+, but with my 3B it wouldn't boot pCp headless. I had to edit /boot/config.txt and add in:

    hdmi_force_hotplug=1

I have about 10 running for testing purposes, they all run headless.

Do DHCP reservations, it's way easier.

Some feedback - all my stuff has arrived, and I have been able to set it up without any major problems. The piCorePlayer interface is really easy.

Thanks to all for the assistance and advice.
