    Power Over Ethernet modification

Over time my Radios have been having more problems with WiFi and our new house has Ethernet jacks everywhere. With some cheap modules I've now modified my Radios to have Power Over Ethernet. It works great!

Attached are my notes and a couple pics showing the mod.

That is a very nice mod,

I'll have to try it on my one of my radio's as they currently run POE run down to 18v (some old Ubiquiti step down converters hacked up then broken out to DC jacks). This is SO much neater.

My only question is what sort of heat you get off the unit in use once wrapped up inside the radio? Anything noteworthy when running the radio hard or does it just do its thing with no problems?

    Thanks guys!

I haven't noticed any heat problems with it. The POE module is rated for 30W. I played white noise at maximum volume and I saw the consumption (from the switch port) maxed out at 10W. I don't think the POE module is stressed that much.

I've tested it with my 802.3at switch (power on pins 1,2 & 3,6) as well as a passive 48V 0.5A injector (power on pins 4,5 & 7,8) with no problems.
