The behaviour I see now is if you pause a track in the Spotify app when using Connect it jumps forward ..... lets say a minute but no fixed amount, if it does not jump to the end of the track then pressing play again will indeed resume playback from the jumped to position. This did not happen previously, you had to move on to the next track.
    same here (RPI4, LMS 8.2)

Somehow you are both seeing different behaviour to me.

Better start the wrong track than none at all :-D

Would it make a difference whether you waited only a few seconds between
pausing and resuming, or more than a minute?

I see that those changes come in for a player called "UpMpd-UPnP/AV".
Assuming that's using the UPnP bridge, would you experience the same
problem with a "native" player, too?

Yes! If I let a track play for a while then pause and resume work from the correct place no jumping ahead to a different place in the audio.
However I was confused by the track timing indicator which does still jump forward usually to the end and then counts up past the duration of the song when you resume play.

So my mistake (sorry!) was when checking yesterday I was hitting pause straight away to see what happened

Letting the song play for 10-15 secs, then pause and resume work in the correct place in the audio.
    Thanks very much!

(The track time indicator though moves to the end and track time counts up from duration of song.)

To summarise what I am seeing. When using Connect pausing does seem to work for short tracks in that playback does pause and resume correctly and the correct track times are displayed in LMS. Seeking within a track also works in Connect. The only issue is the time bar in the Spotify app jumps to the end of the track and stays there while the time still increases beyond the maximum track time.
The situation is different for long tracks. In this case the track time bar jumps forward when pausing in the Spotify app, but it doesn't jump to the end. I just tried playing "Gates Of Delirium" from Yes-Relayer. Pausing caused the time bar in Spotify to jump forward to around 7 minutes 36 seconds while the time in LMS was 7 seconds. Resuming playback caused LMS to jump forward to 7 minutes 36 seconds and continue from there.

That's odd. I even saw it jump backwards (but only by a few seconds).
The position within the track is dictated by Spotify.

Another strange thing. If I start playback using connect then stop playback in LMS (not pause) then if I press play in LMS the now playing screen changes to playing nothing. After that I can't play anything from Spotty in LMS until I play some local music first.
