Possible bug with mixed up artwork

Has anyone noticed an occasional issue with artwork that is incorrect?

Sometimes artwork for an album shows the art for the wrong album, but always an album by the same artist. When it does occur, some albums of the artist show correct artwork, some do not (in other words its not like every release by an artist is impacted). The incorrect art shows up everywhere, browsing by album, browsing by artists, new music, etc. It shows regardless of which web app skin or iOS app I use.

I keep on seeing instances of this in my collection.

    I am on 8.1.1 - 1610364019, on Ubuntu 20.04.2
I do not use embedded artwork, only folder.jpg in the same folder as the media files
I have verified the albums with this issue do not have embedded art, and I have verified the correct art is in folder.jpg
My collection is 6189 artists, 7489 albums

Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas on what might be the cause? For instance, is there any path length restriction in Ubuntu? (just spitballing here).

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Regards,
    pscreed

When I've had a similar problem, it was solved by a "Clear library" rebuild.

I have fixed some like that, and then I see different ones... well at least I know others have seen something similar, so thanks for letting me know!

A little frustrated with LMS showing the wrong album art. I currently maintain the art in folder.jpg in the album folder, with no art embedded in the flac files.

Does this work better with embedded art instead of folder.jpg?

Is either method considered a best practice or recommended approach?

    TIA for any hep.

Either should work. It sounds like you have a corrupted artwork cache.
If this isn’t fixed by a full clear and rescan can you advise what hardware you are running with.
How many tracks do you have?

folder.jpg or cover.jpg file in album folder (with no embedded artwork) should work properly. Does for me with almost 9,000 albums.

Thx for the reply. Hardware is dedicated Intel NUC i7, library is stored on 8TB ssd in the same box (not an external drive). LMS is the only software on the box. OS is Ubuntu 20.4.

    Total genres: 22
    Total artists: 6261
    Total albums: 7633
    Total songs: 124797

TIA for any insight you could offer.

The hardware should be fine. I suspect corrupted db and/or artwork cache.
Potentially a lot of work but I'd be tempted to uninstall LMS, remove all files that might be left and reinstall the latest version from scratch.
How long does a Clear & Rescan take?
You have 3 x the amount of files I have but that shouldn't be an issue.

Maybe I will try that. Clear and rescan takes less than 30 minutes. And I have tried that, sometimes it solves one set of bunged artwork but then the issue shows up in a different place.

What is interesting to me is that when wrong artwork appears, it’s always the correct artist. In other words, I have never seen an Eric Clapton album with artwork from a Van Morrison album. But I have seen (for instance), “Money and Cigarettes” the album shown with the artwork from “Behind the Sun”.

Crazy. It must be something wrong in my instance or I’d imagine there would be a lot of posts on this. Just trying to figure out how to fix…

Interesting re same artist, wrong art. I assume each album is in its *own* subdirectory under the artist directory.
