    piCorePlayer 8.0.0 - Busybox error

    Hi

After installing piCorePlayer 8.0.0 and change the "Audio output device settings" to USB, on boot process the screen blinks several times and I get a error message in the "BusyBox v1.33.0" startup.

    " Failed to find ... Done (42)."

    I attach a copy of pcp_boot.log

I think this is not normal and I dont know how this afect the performance and the features of pCP.

In the 7 version I dont have this error.

    Thank

      Hi Ronnie

Its a fresh install. I tried both 32 and 64 bits.

I use first a Asus Xonar U7 USB Soundcard (power supplied by the USB port)

I tried also a Pioneer N50A, powered on before boot.

In both the error is the same.

My raspberry Pi is a 4 with 4gB ram.

The sound in both dacs seems OK.

      Thanks

      Fernando

Ah, so are you saying both dacs work but you are concerned only about the message

          I've never seen that error.

When you change the Audio device to USB, are you also selecting the correct output as the popup box requests? Perhaps you have popups disabled in your browser?

            Yes, Ronnie

Both dacs working ok. But I am concerned about the message and seeing the screen blinking 40 times before the error appears and the boot process continues it's boring.

            Hi Paul

I dont see any pop up after selecting USB, i am gone see if there any problem with my browser (Edge Windows 10)

            Thank You both.

            Fernando

PS: The only pop up that appears is to confirm the "Audio Output Device" before reboot.

Yes, but what string did you use in the audio output device? This I where you tell pCP which audio card you want to use.
If you don't add anything pCP don't know what it should use, and it might produce the error you have.

                Bingo SBP

I miss that. I think that if leave all fields in they default state it worked ok.

I tried "hw:CARD=U7,DEV=0" and the error disappeared

In the V7 this didn't happen to me.

                Thank you all.

There was a problem with pCP prior to pCP8 when using USB cards. We didn't know the card name so we were getting errors similar to the one you reported.

So now, we are using the "Output setting" to determine the card name if using USB.

Thanks for your report, I'll add it to my TODO list.

I had that too and saw some messages in dmesg-log "bcm2708_fb soc:fb: Failed to allocate GPU framebuffer (-22)"...

I get the busybox error even when the "output setting" field is not empty. Used to work under 7.0.1. Setup is a RPi 4 with an Aureon XFire HD 8.0 USB soundcard. I run a custom /etc/asound.conf for a multiroom audio system:

Despite the error, everything seems to work as it should. It just takes a lot longer to boot. I'd be grateful for any ideas on how to fix this.

The error happens because we assume when you are using USB audio the "Output setting" field will contain the card name.

We will have to add more code to handle the exceptions better.

Using ALSA equalizer will probably break it as well.

There is a small chance this might work in "Output setting" field ??? (Not tested)

                          stereofront:CARD=yourcardname

Where "yourcardname" is determined by looking under "Output setting" > "more>" help

                          Might be stereofront:CARD=HD

If I try equalizer, none of the output options I can pick work. Squeezelite won't start

I tried that and squeezelight wouldn't start. Here is what output devices I am shown:

sysdefault works also, but gives me the busybox error as well. Is some extra code to handle these sort of exception in the foreseeable future or should I just go back to 7.0.1 where it worked?

Sorry, the ALSA equalizer was just a red herring. I mentioned it for others reading the thread that have the same problem as you but caused by ALSA equalizer.
