    Upon testing using ['fulltextsearch', '?'] in jsonrpc.js

    when FTS is enabled the response is an object { _can: 1 }

    when FTS is disabled the request results in ECONNRESET with message 'socket hang up'.

    Is this because the code to respond to the request is contained in the plugin itself, which cannot respond if not enabled?

    That's not that elegant... but yes, that's likely what would happen. I
    only tested using the CLI.
