    Tube amplifier

    Hi folks,

can anyone recommend me a tube amp? Maybe my question is too simple...

I would like to connect a Squeezebox to it, maybe a turn table, too. I do not want to spend more than 2000 euros/dollars and it should be a single device (not a pre-amp/amp combination). My speakers are a pair of Tannoy D100.

    Is that possible?

No, its not to simple. But we all do not know what sounds good to you and therefore the best would be if you go to one or more dealer and listen to different tube amps. Or even better, ask your dealers to get different tube amp models for some days and test them at home in your known listening environment and oyur speakers and without stress.

I’ve looked around the net and for your speakers a amp wit at least 30W is recommended. Many tube amps to not have that much power ;-). So take care that the amp has enough power but its not said that you need it. I depends how loud you want to listen and how it sounds. Also this has to be tested at home with your speakers and it is very likely that also amps with less then 30W output will work with your speakers.

What kind of squeezebox do you like to connect? If you have a touch or a Transporter no DAC is needed, a Classic does not have a DAC included so either also a external DAC is needed or the amp has to be able to do digital to analog conversion.

    Yes, ofcourse!

I also use a tube amp with a external DAC and Squeeezeboxes.

    Cheers,

I've been enjoying one of these which looks like it would tick most of your boxes.

They are currently out of stock but there is a waiting list on their web site.

    Cheers, Steve.

Looks interesting. Although I have never seen so few specifications listed under "Technical Data".

Get yourself around a few of these dealers

    https://www.yelp.com/search?cflt=hif...amburg&start=0

There are some very good German mfg's of valve amplifiers (Octave springs to mind, a bit expensive though )

Second hand may be the way to go (check about servicing)

I have a Unison Research Simply 2. I must get out of its box again

I don't have anything to say about tube amps, but I will just point out that all Squeezeboxes (including the Classic) do have DACs and analogue outputs, so schoeppi's advice about needing a DAC is not actually correct.
Until recently: Transporter -> ATC SCM100A, now sold :-(
    House move forced change to: piCorePlayer(RPi2/HiFiBerry DIGI2 Pro/HiFiBerry DSP) -> Meridian 218 -> Meridian M6

A, OK, you are from Germany. Then this might be interesting:

    https://www.lowbeats.de/test-cayin-c...t-2-x-40-watt/

Cayin IMHO is very interesting for tube amp newbies and if the price
matters. Also the tested model has a DAC included which means you can
connect every squeezebox you like. And last but not least the CS 55a can be
used if different types of tubes and is easy to handle regarding the
    used tubes (BIAS).

I am sure you can get one to test at home for some days if you ask the
    dealer:

    https://cayin.com/online-kaufen/

    Just give them a call...

    Cheers from Munich,

    Oh, sorry, you are right.

I should have known better. I had a Classic a few years ago and after
reading your comment I remembered using it without a external DAC. Man, I am
    getting old :-(!

    Why?
The Tannoy D100s aren’t anything special and certainly don’t need a 2000 Euro amp to perform properly.
