    Podcasts - how to use?

Iím using LMS 7.9.0 and the Podcast plugin is active. Iíve found and entered the RSS URL for a podcast I want to listen to and when I go to the podcast app o the web interface, that podcast appears to load and the episodes show up!along with the icon for that podcast. Very neat. But when I try to play any of the podcasts, I get no audio and the progress bar and play time indicator do not change. In other words, itís not playing.

Iíve tried a few other podcasts with similar results. What am I missing here? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

It would help others if you give examples of podcasts that do not work.

If it is a https URL and/or a MP4 podcast - then you need to upgrade to at least LMS 8.1.2

    Podcast that doesn't work

I'm trying to listen to You Must Remember This. The URL is https://feeds.megaphone.fm/YMRT7068253588

The episodes show up in the browser, but they don't play. Should I upgrade to a later verion of LMS?

The podcasts in this feed play fine on my Boom, piCorePlayer and SqueezePlay. I am using the latest LMS 8.1.2, running on Windows.
    LMS details: Logitech Media Server Versie: 8.1.2 - 1621831259 @ Mon May 24 08:26:43 WEDT 2021

As suggested by bpa, you should indeed upgrade your LMS. You can download the latest LMS 8.1.2 nightly from here:
http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=8.1 Hopefully a version for your operating system is available.

The stream are MP3 but the URLS are https so it is most common fault as http suport in 7.9.0 is limited

However https support is largely dependent on an up to date OS (e.g 8.1.2 will not be any good on a WinXP or Ubuntu 14.*) and up to date Perl modules.

What OS & version are you using ?
If Linux type OS - what version of openssl ? (use "openssl version" command) .

I have been using the podcast capability of LMS allot more recently. Once you are up and running, I recommend two things that may improve your experience:

    1) Install Philippe's "reliable" plugin. It completely solved my problem where podcasts would drop in the middle, and I would have to restart and ffwd to where it dropped. In fact, I think if I paused one for a while, it also would not resume, and I'd have to restart. https://forums.slimdevices.com/showt...ounce+reliable

    2) Using the material skin, there is a podcast text search and save of both itunes and gpodder. Just search the name of the pc, find it and subscribe. No more URL cut and paste.

One other thing is to remember at the bottom of the podcast list is a "recently played". So, if you were on episode 20, and came back days, weeks later, you can go to this to remind you "where you were"

    Jim

PS - thanks for the dual endorsement of "you must remember this" I'll check it out!

Cool. I never noticed the podcast search function built into Material Skin. Works well.

With 8.2 the functionality of Reliable and more is built in.
    Look under Settings/Network/Streaming mode
