    Family now hate the Jogglers.

Around Chirstmas time, I bought 2 Jogglers.

After initial learning curve, I got them both set up well and the family were enjoying them.

Things have declined since then. :-( No one touchest them any more because they are both so unreliable.

Sometimes the display is just very unresponsive. Sometimes connecting to the server is irratic. Often, the jogglers will just crash. Sometimes with a frozen screen, but most often back to the command prompt.

They are both running Ubuntu 18.04.4 with nothing installed except Squeezeplay (https://birdslikewires.net/debian-for-openframe).

The OS is running from a mini USB stick on both Jogglers. I have tried different USB sticks, so I don't think that there's a problem there.

When playing music, they seem to crash every few minutes. Maybe between 5 and 30 minutes sessions.

The Joggler seems to get fairly warm, but not what you'd describe as 'hot'.

Is there anything I can do, or is it just the sign of ageing tech that needs to be retired?

I've heard Jivelite recommended, but a quick attempt with that left the device seemingly unable to find the server. I'm not sure if there are settings that need to be changed somewhere to sort that.

Do any of you have any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Damian

I looked at the Jogglers and found this page...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O2_Joggler

This looks almost exactly like a Raspberry Pi with the standard 7" touch
screen. I have put boxes like this together and run PiCore. You can see
my post about that construction at:

I found the older release (not helpful since I do not remember which one it was) to be more stable and have stuck with it.
I do have to reboot them every now and then ... perhaps monthly ... which might be related to the SqueezePlay number overflow issue.

2 of them (bathroom and kitchen) are used daily.

I just had a quick look at the birdslikewires site and did not find the old release. My copy is on a USB stick that I pop into a new (to me) Joggler when it arrives. Recently provided 2 to another household in the family.

I have 4 jogglers in play. All are flashed with the brislikewires image. They are generally stable but like Paul I do find that they will freeze from time to time. I just do a hard reboot - pull power, count to 20 reapply power. They are then usually stable for at least a month at a time.

PS. Only one acts as a player (with USB DAC). The other 3 are purely Controllers/Now Playing screens but in truth the control usage is very limited as I use Material on my iPhone.

I have three in regular use and they work fine. I do find @chill's Jivelite image to be far more reliable than the other images which caused regular lock-ups and return to prompt. I was about to call it a day but followed the advice to reflash with the stock O2 image first and then reflash with @chill's image which is pretty close to a Touch in terms of functionality. In five months I have had them freeze once which simply required a reboot. I have two running on internal flash and one running off a Sandish Cruzer 16Gb mini USB (just to see if there was any difference - none).

    Thanks everyone!

I think I should give chill's Jivelite a proper try.

Can anyone point me to a tutorial that goes through the setup? I did try running it, but I obviously hadn't got the network setting right and didn't know how to change them.

    Thanks,
    Damian

While I wait to see a Jivelite walkthrough, I've just installed sqpos303_ext.img on one of the external USB's.

On booting, it finds the server, but then says "Server needs to be updated to a newer version of the Logitech Media Server".

I feel sure that I've seen that before, but can't rememebr how to get past it.

    Any tips?

    Thanks again,
    Damian

I documented how to resolve that on the JogglerWiki forum ... but if you have a recent LMS 8 then ... that should not happen.
Which version of LMS are you running?
