    Squeezebox Repair

It seems that the SB3 has reached the end of its lifecycle. More and more devices are failing. I bought some on eBay. They work for some months and one even for more than a year. Then they die with the same symptoms:

    • Display dead
    • Player cannot be found on network
    • optical output still blinking

I guess the capacitors would need replacement.

This is an excellent guide by the way: https://joes-tech-blog.blogspot.com/...x-classic.html

Unfortunately I just lack the skills to replace the capacitors by myself. Has anybody had their devices repaired or know a good repair shop (preferably in Europe (I am located in Switzerland))?

Fun fact: My SliMP3 is still working perfectly. Slim Devices was better quality than Logitech!

You linked to a repairer in Europe (Germany).

I didn't realize that is a repairer. Writing blogs about about repairing doesn't necessarily mean you repair things for other people. But in this case you are definitely right:

"I am located in Germany. Please consider this when you want to send me stuff for repairs. Inside EU, shipping costs are tolerable but outside EU borders it gets very expensive quickly. Thanks to Covid19, parcel services are only offering the premium products now. For US targets, the smallest entity is 37.99 EUR when it used to be only about half that."

I will give that a try. Thanks for helping out.

Yep my SB3 has just also packed up. But the optical is not blinking. It is just glowing gently.

So had to bring the old Pinnacle 1001 out of retirement. Shows up as a SB2 in iPeng.

Bad WLAN card or not in socket can cause these symptoms even if wireless is not being used.
SB3 will work without WLAN card - relatively easy to open (need torx driver) and remove card to test.

Interesting. Mine has never been dropped. But has been used in some interesting environments. Workshop/garage. The only difference recently is the display was set to dim rather than normal. Also top left corner felt ôwarmö.

Will open up and have a look any way.
    The SB2!

That is a Roku Soundbridge sold under licence in Europe by Pinnacle ... it is not a Squeezebox ... but might suffer from similar problems.
