"Pleasant surprise" is probably one of two things -

They realise that many users probably store their music files on a NAS and are sorting the software code.

They realise that 512 MB DDR3 RAM is puny by today's standards, so they've upped the RAM, hence the price hike.

I just received an email from Vortexbox advising expected shipment of the CORE32 "by the end of July".

    There's also this update:

"We have experienced a number on ongoing technical issues, which has not only delayed the CORE32 program, but has also resulted in the need to change the design. The good news, is that as a consequence of this, we will now able to deliver a superior product with faster performance. "

I’ve been using the original Odroid HC1 as an LMS server for a few years running DietPi and I haven’t had a single issue with it. The nice thing about the HC1 is that you can attach a 2.5” drive directly to it which makes it a nice compact all in one solution. I recently purchased the DAC32 and am really enjoying the ease of use, it was basically plug & play as once I plugged it in and added my network to it, it was shown as an available player. Really enjoying the product thus far, I think once they fix whatever issues they are having with the CORE32 it should make for a pretty cool LMS solution.

    CORE32 update

Sorry about the long wait for this update, but we wanted to make sure that we had something substantive to say. The background to this, is that we have been experiencing ongoing technical issues with the original CORE32 design, to the point where we decided to change it and this is what we have been working on.

We have to accept that it was a mistake to pre-launch CORE32 when we did, and to issue delivery dates, which have proven to be unrealistic. We need to learn from this mistake and we will use our best endeavours to do so

The good news is that the revised design has progressed very smoothly, to the point where we can now advise that the plan is to start shipping CORE32 by the end of July. The further good news is that CORE32 will now offer superior performance to the original design. Functionally there will not be any changes, other significantly faster response time and the provision of 2 x USB sockets but no SD Card storage option.

Once again, thank you for your patience

    ---

    Bob
