    Just curious.

People wonder if the USB cable quality between their streamer (pi) and DAC makes a difference.

Do those people also wonder if the USB cable connecting an external HDD hosting their music library could/would make a difference?

OP: you might want to look at the audio hardware section on The Steve Hoffman Music Forums and also the Audio Science Review forum, as well as Archimago for more information, about USB and any other type of cable.
Hmm I had a look at the Steve Hoffman forum. That's an hour I won't get back

I love the Steve Hoffman forum for discussion on music, mixes/mastering, reviews of new releases, and general music discussion. However, I find an amazing amount of misinformation related to digital music creation/storage/playback. I just ignore all that.

Yep, it would be a losing battle to try to say anything bad about vinyl over there. Heck, I grew up with vinyl (not that we called it that....it was just an "album"). And I had thousands (still have many hundreds and a working turntable, not that I've used it in 10+ years). But I loved CDs when they came around, and love my lossless FLAC ripped copy of my CDs even more!

I'm more into using cables of good quality, sturdy connectors an d shielding. That shpuld be enough. Then I snort the fairy dust.

Might it be an idea to run TWO identical USB cables between the pi and the DAC and send an inverted digital signal along one of them so that a differential path like with XLR could be recreated? The pi has multiple USB sockets and there must be DACs with more than one, no? If not, there's surely a market opportunity for an enterprising Audiophile specialist company looking to differentiate itself with radical forward thinking!

USB signalling is already differential !

    But anyway !
