Trying to listen WMA files failed through stream.

    Hello all,

I'm encounter difficulties with playing Windows media files with latest version of LMS ( Version: 8.1.1 - 1610364019 @ Thu Jan 14 06:22:21 CET 2021 )

I use http://MyServerIP:9000/stream.mp3 for listening via network stream from LMS server on my computer or mobile phone.

Actually there is no sound and progress bar returns to 0:00 after a while.

LMS is running on Debian Buster and neither distro provided binary of ffmpeg nor self compiled from source latest build worked for me.

In my living room I have Raspberry Pi with PiCore player ( latest version ) and I can listen there same WMA files via squeezelite player. However streaming form PiCore is also broken so I guess that converting WMA-->mp3 is something broken.

Here is the excerpt from the log file.

    Code:

You need a working copy of ffmpeg on the LMS server for WMA support. If your computer uses Windows - you may be able to use Squeezelite-X as a player or just squeezelite.

Are you sure ffmpeg is broken ? Is it totally broken (e.g. core dumped) or just WMA support not working ?
What error do you get when you do
    ffmpeg -V

ffmpeg is supported on Debian Buster and I have a working version of ffmpeg on Ubuntu and on a Pi with Buster.
What processor/platform is your Debian Buster on ? Is it something odd ?

How did you try to build what build options did you choose ?

I'm just guessing. Somehow this is working on PiCore player when I try to listen on squeezelite player. But is not working when trying to stream remotely.

Here is the output on :

In versions of LMS before 8.0 I have no problems streaming WMA, but I have had a problem with playlist with WMA files. At the and of the every song player stops and playing next song was not started. I needed to start the next song manually and there all playlist. In new version, where ffmpeg is used, this problem disappeared and now is playing normally.

WMA decoding libraries are now built into many version of squeezelite - so LMS recognises no need to transcode WMA using ffmpeg for those players.

To play on Stream.mp - wma stream/file needs to be transcoded into MP3.

I can't easily tell the version of ffmpeg you have built but it is clear that ffmpeg is not broken.

Can you use the standard Debian package and remove your own build which uses default build options which I am unsure of.

You need to explain with a lot more detail.
    What player ? stream.mp3 and/or other players.
    LMS version before 8.0 - which version 7.9.4 ,7.9.3, 7.9.1, 7.8 ....7.7 ??
ffmpeg is not part of LMS so did you update ffmpeg at same time of LMS ?
did you update squeezelite and are you referring to a squeezlite upgrade to squeezelite with WMA decoder ?

The test conversion fromwma to mp3 should have worked without error.

The error message seem to indicate an issue with input file or the build of ffmpeg.

Can you run ffprobe on the test file - for example

    ffprobe "Sorhin - I Det Glimrande Morkrets Djup - 01 - Godhetens Fall.wma"

Yes, I have removed my build and installed ffmpeg from repository:

    Then I run:
    Code:
    ffprobe /music/music/mp3/mp3_disks/Disk073/SORHIN/I\ Det\ Glimrande\ Morkrets\ Djup/Sorhin\ -\ I\ Det\ Glimrande\ Morkrets\ Djup\ -\ 01\ -\ Godhetens\ Fall.wma

I even tried to startup from scratch on freshly installed Debian 10 virtual machine. With distro provided versions of ffmpeg. No difference. Files are not played. I know that time is precious for everyone, but you can give a try and see for yourself

Part of using the standard package is to enable comparison and suggets test that are likely to work.
You are on same version as I am and I have no problem doing wma->mp3 file conversion with wma with similar audio format as you are using.

IIRC A "monotonic" issue was vaguely linked with processor type a while back.

    What is your processor and platform (e.g. amd64, arm64, armhf,i386.. ).? what is "uname -a "

While "ffmpeg -i test.wma testout.mp3" works OK for me.
There is an error in the wma->mp3 conversion rule in PlayWMA which I am looking at.

The "wma mp3" line inthe custom-convert.conf file in PlayWMA should be - the error is an extra "$PATH"
    Code:
    wma mp3 * *
    	# F:{PATH=%f}R:{PATH=%F}T:{START=-ss %s}B:{BITRATE=--abr %B}
    	[ffmpeg] -loglevel quiet -i $PATH$ -f wav - | [lame] --silent -q $QUALITY$ $BITRATE$ - -

    After you did
    Code:
     ffmpeg -i Sorhin\ -\ I\ Det\ Glimrande\ Morkrets\ Djup\ -\ 01\ -\ Godhetens\ Fall.wma 123.mp3
Was the 123.mp3 playable and a good conversion of the original ? if so then messages are only warnings and can be ignored.

    Hello bpa,

my processor is amd64. Yes, it its running on virtual machine ( Proxmox Hypervisor ) but I think it should not be a problem.

    Code:
    root@debian-LMS:/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/PlayWMA# uname -a

    Linux debian-LMS 4.19.0-13-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.160-2 (2020-11-28) x86_64 GNU/Linux
    root@debian-LMS:/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/PlayWMA#
