Remote Control Problem in pCP, no devices found.

I have pCP on a 3B+ and am attaching a remote IR receiver to +3.3v, gnd and various GPIOs, 17, 27, 18. and saving in IR page.
If I try sudo ir-keytable -p all -c , I get - no devices found. If I try sudo ir-keytable -t , I get bthe same - no devices found. The IR receiver is new, tried two and connected correctly.
Has anyone any Idea what is going on.
