Thanks for pointing out Home Assistant - sounds interesting, even for only using it to forward the devices to HomeKit.

Yes - Material is very nice (actually great!). It is just that I am so used to using iPeng, that I prefer it at the moment.

In general, Siri is not necessary. But in the kitchen, it would be great!

    Yes - it is.

Your usage scenario sounds like it is working perfectly. But when you add Apple Music to it (and you see the possibilities to include other music streaming services in LMS), LMS is kind of missing that integration.

I think I will give Home Assistant a try and see if it is superior to Homebridge / HOOBS which I am using at the moment.

Homekit/Homebridge (Hoobs is Homebridge) is totally different to Home Assistant. There is much to learn at the beginning and it is really great for controlling totally different smart things with one software. I don't know if any smart device can be controlled to Home Assistant but nearly all. Even Wifi Homekit devices can be included.
It is not something that will work directly after installing.
I am controlling (volume, next song, last song, pause) eg. LMS with an IKEA Sonos controller via ZigBee. When my harmony hub remote switches on the action music, it switches my stereo with Infrared and Home Assistant switches on the plug for piCorePlayer with a 7" display. Then I can control LMS with the IKEA remote or with the Harmony hub remote or with the 7" display.
It is all running automatically, normally I don't have to switch something in the Home Assistant app.

I am aware, that they are different beasts, but the question is, how easy is it to setup Home Assistant to fi=unction ONLY as s bridge to HomeKit. I assume, it will be a bit of work, after reading this….

I am have a home bridge plugin, which I use to switch the players on (from a hue dimmer switch in one case) and I also controlled the volume with. So it works - but I do not know why and from time to time the plugin crashes which stops the complete home bridge system…

If anybody is interested in contributing to the plugin, you are welcome.

Ideal would be a plugin for LMS, which provides the integration to HomeBridge...

    Cheers,

    Rainer

    I know - I posted that there.

No success so far - there does not seem to be a large overall between these two groups.

This is the plugin which I forked and added volume control to (as a Fan).

But I do not know enough to maintain make further changes and additions…

    Cheers,

    :-) OK.

    Also I found this: https://soffes.blog/home-assistant-sonos-and-siri

I have two Ikea Symfonisk speakers here which are from Sonos. They are both used in LMS via Airplay 1 (they also can Airplay 2). And two Airport Express which can also Airplay 2.

That is what I am doing at the moment, AirPlay Bridge to Libratone Zip Mini 2 speakers - works nicely, no problems there.

The question is: I will have two HomePods, paired as a stereo. Can the AirPlay bridge stream to these two as stereo? If yes, one problem is solved.
    Yes

OK - that explains. But streaming from a running Music session on a Mac (or in a browser?) using AirPlay to LMS should work. The question: could one control that Music session from LMS? As a kind of a remote control, which should be allowed?
Not sure I'm following. Using Shairtunes you can send through AirPlay from your mac to any SB and you can have a bit of control from LMS as well (like volume/skip) but there are limitations.
    LMS 8.1.x on Odroid-C4 - SqueezeAMP!, 5xRadio, 5xBoom, 2xDuet, 1xTouch, 1xSB3. Sonos PLAY:3, PLAY:5, Marantz NR1603, Foobar2000, ShairPortW, 2xChromecast Audio, Chromecast v1 and v2, Squeezelite on Pi, Yamaha WX-010, AppleTV 4, Airport Express, GGMM E5, RivaArena 1 & 3

The idea is essentially to control an Apple Music session via LMS (and therefore have very similar features as the other online music plugins like Spotify, Qobuz) while streaming the sound from the Apple Music via Shairtunes to LMS.

I would also like to see a integration between the Apple ecosystem and LMS. But to me it is not so much about Siri. To me it is more about HomeKit and automations. For example: the morning alarm plays music or radio station from LMS (piCorePlayer) and then runs an automation to turn on the bedside lights. It is stuff like that I'm mostly interested in.
Would this be possible with the Home Assistant thing that was mentioned before? The Home Assistant webside is not very explanatory but immediately dives in to technical stuff without really explaining what it does or how it works.
Maybe LMS could trigger a action or shortcut by using Pushcut?

Siri would be great if possible for those short commands such as "turn off bedroom player" or "turn down volume", etc. But not having Siri integration is not huge thing to me.

    LMS and Apple

You can look into Homebridge [https://homebridge.io <https://homebridge.io/>] or HOOBS [https://hoobs.org] ( which is also only Homebridge in a more user friendly packaging). There are plugins for home bridge, and one triggers himekit actions based open an alarm in LMS (although I think I remember that it does not work with a local LMS installation?). There is also another plugin (which I have slightly modified), which represents each player as a FAN, speed = volume [https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-squeezebox2 <https://www.npmjs.com/package/homebridge-squeezebox2>] . If you only want to bring LMS into HomeKit, home bridge / HOOBS is the easiest.

Please let me know if you use the plugin - I need a bit more motivation (and contributors?) to continue working on it.

    Cheers,

    Rainer
