    Hourly re-scan of media

    Hi,

I have updated recently from 7.9.1 (1518987734) to 8.1.1 (1609569900). I think since then the LMS is re-scanning my library every hour, e.g.:

Album cover lookup (3 of 3) Complete 00:00:01
Artist picture lookup (1 of 1) Complete 00:00:00
Building full text index (7 of 7) Complete 00:00:21
    Database Optimize (2 of 2) Complete 00:02:06

The server has finished scanning your media library.
    Total Time: 00:02:28 (Monday, January 18, 2021 / 5:18 PM)

The re-scan itself is not a problem but the 'Database Optimize' takes two minutes and my old, soon-to-be-replaced system becomes unresponsive which is a bit of a pain. I have automatic re-scan disabled (Advanced - Rescan Music Library and Performance - Trigger scan on Preference Changes - 'Prompt to scan but don't trigger).
Is there a way to turn this hourly re-scan off ?

Hmm... had you been using an online music service I'd have said check
the Online Music Library Integration plugin. But there's no trace of it
in the scan summary? Are you using any online service?

    Right you are:
Disabling the unnecessarily active 'Online Music Library Integration' plugin seems to have solved my problem - no re-scan in 1 1/2 hours !

Thank you very much for you help ! It is very much appreciated !

I think the Deezer plugin is installed by default so that might have been the cause.

I'd still like to understand why it got triggered. Because no scan
should be triggered if you're not using a music service. Are you using any?

    Hi Michael,

Yes, I have been and I am still using Deezer once in while.

I remember having browsed through the plugins after the update and, noticing some new ones, activated a few. It could very well be that I have enabled the 'Online Music Library Integration' one (because I thought that maybe I could connect to my Nextcloud storage in a convenient way...not knowing the functionality).
However, I doubt that I had configured the plugin for Deezer and Tidal to 'Integrate online library and automatically check for changes' - but that's how I found them before disabling the plugin. Again, I am not 100% sure and sorry for being so vague - I was down with a fever when I did this.

The one thing I can tell you for sure though is that the problem with re-scanning is gone - music played all day long today on different clients and not a single re-scan or hick-up. Life is on again!

    Thank you!

I think the default is that scans happen if one of the supporting streaming services is configured.
So the action to take if you do not want it is the one that you did ... disable it.

...in hindsight, the one thing that might have helped me understand is if the 'start scan' entry in the squeezeboxserver.log would refer to the plugin that triggered it (as it can be seen with some other entires in the same log).

So you have it configured on mysqueezebox.com, and it's working as
expected? But you don't want your Deezer collection to be imported into
    LMS' local library?

That's fine. What I don't understand is that it seemed to have triggered
the scan, but then there's no information about any online scan in the
scanner.log. Do you have any favorites on Deezer at all?

    > However, I doubt that I had configured the plugin for Deezer and Tidal

    Are you using TIDAL, too?

    > to 'Integrate online library and _automatically_check_for_changes_' -

That's the default setting, and can be set to only run during regular scans.

I would be grateful if you could help me understand what was going on
there. Because no matter how the plugins are configured, there shouldn't
be an hourly scan unless there are hourly changes to your library.

Yes. I have only a free account and no collection at all. And yes it is working - I had verified it before replying ;-).

I think I have nothing at all on Deezer (...I can check later but for the time being I would rather not touch the account: one variable less to consider...).

    >Are you using TIDAL, too?

No, and it is not configured on mysqueezebox.com.
But the Tidal 2.0 plugin was enabled as well as the Online Music Library Integration for Tidal -> 'automaticaly check for changes'. (What might happen, if it can never login?)

    Nice - makes sense.

    >I would be grateful if you could help me understand what was going on

Certainly - that's the least I can do!

    >Because no matter how the plugins are configured, there shouldn't

No, I shouldn't have hourly changes....hmm....anyway, it did not seem to find anything, never. The result always looked as in the screenshot in my first message.
Let me start with trying to reproduce it. I am going to reactivate the plugin and see if this is enough to trigger the hourly re-scans again.
All fingers crossed - I will report back....
