Trying to switch to Music Source to mysqueezebox.com just loads web page

    Hi

I've seen others comment on this, but can't find a resolution, so grateful for any guidance. I was trying to switch the music source on my LMS 8.1 (running on PCP 7) to mysqueezebox.com and all it does is load the mysqueezebox.com web page - leaving the local lms web page completely. My password etc. for mysb is correct in LMS, and I've tried logging in first even into mysb, but no joy.

I'm only trying to switch to see if I can get it to register my other pcp players on mysb.com to work around an issue with material and tidal on non-registered players.

If you try to connect your player to mysb.com from LMS, then the player disconnects from LMS and connects to mysb.com, LMS is of no further use until you reconnect you player.

When the mysb.com web page loads, can you click on players ? Five of the players in the picture below are RPi's.

    Hi

Thanks. Made a little headway. If the current player in the LMS UI is registered on mysb, then it does actually switch that player over to mysb - it's listed as Connected there. However, if the player doesn't exist already in mysb, it's not added and the player ends up in a half in, half out state. It's removed from the local LMS, but not connected to mysb, I guess since it doesn't exist there. I have to restart squeezelite and it reconnects to the local LMS. So, maybe it's a registration problem - which is actually the original problem I had. is there a way to add a new pcp to mysb? If I delete an existing one, it gets readded, but I can't add new ones. 5 of my 7 pcps are there, including one i only created recently.

It doesn't work like that, there's no mechanism to register a software player on mysb.com, it should just appear in your list of players in mysb.com. I have never tried to register or connect any RPi to mysb.com, it just happens, I have absolutely no use whatsoever for mysb.com.

Since I posted that screenshot above, 2 more players have somehow got themselves connected both called "Player". There's even an Amazon Echo Show 8 connected, WTF. Crazy!!

    Hi

Yes, sorry, I should have been more specific - I realised there was a "click here to register", but some process or other is registering them. I've also seen the Player entries - which seem to be some half done registrations - the MAC address on mine was nothing to do with any device of mine. I also have an amplifier listed and some really old entries for old PIs. Some of the PCPs will list the firmware, some don't.

I wonder if Michael can give us a clue? Seems to something very inconsistent going on.

But that wouldn't be a software player like squeezelite, would it?

IIRC any player should register on mysb.com automatically when connected
to a correctly configured LMS. But you can only connect native
Squeezebox players to mysb to work without LMS.

I wouldn't be surprised if my memory failed me, but that's the best I
    remember.

And you don't need all players to be registered on mysb.com. As long as
one of yours is registered you should be good with running your player
    using LMS.

I might have missed it, but what actual problem are you trying to solve?
Does something not work with one of your players?

    Hi Michael

Yes, sorry, the actual problem is with the way Material skin discover the available apps to show under the Apps menu, and I asked Craig about it here. The problem is that Material uses a request

    Code:
    ["aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff",["myapps","items",0,25000,"menu:1"]]
to list the available Apps for the current player to build the menu. However, this request only lists Tidal as an available app if the current player is registered on mysb, since Tidal is a mysb app. I know from reading other threads that you don't actually expect non-SB players to register in mysb, but oddly enough most of mine do - I only 9 players including a Boom, a transporter and 7 pcp's. 5 of the pcps appear in mysb, 2 of them don't and I can't find a way to make them. For the 5 that do appear, the ccontent is a little random - a couple show firmware version, 3 don't. For those players that do appear, Tidal appears under Apps in Material, for the 2 that don't, it doesn't.

You'll see on that thread that Craig mentions he doesn't use streaming services, so he's not sure how to address this. It's clear there's another way to list the apps - the main UI and other apps (e.g. SqueezeControl) list tidal for all players for me and I see a different request structure from SqueezeControl when I watch it through a proxy.

So, the real underlying question is - is there a better way for Craig to get a list of the Apps when he's building his menu. Failing that, is there a way to register a player. Having looked at the link in the web client to switch the Music Source, I see it

    http://192.168.3.20:9000/switchserve...squeezebox.com

If I run this with the mac address of one of the PCPs that won't register, it seems to tell squeezelite running on that pi to switch to mysb.com, but the device doesn't register on mysb, so it can't connect. So, you need to stop and restart squeezelite on that device to get it connected to the local LMS again.

I also tried running squeezeplay and choosing one of the players, running Test and registering the SN on mysb that way. This can create an entry on mysb called "Player", but it registers it with the mac address of the pc I'm using to run squeezeplay, not the player that squeezeplay is controlling.

Hope that makes sense and thanks for the help.

Hm... I thought I did address this somewhere in 7.9.

They should all register. I expect them not to connect to mysb. But they
    should register.

Are they all connected to the same LMS? What I've seen in the past is
some installations faking the MAC address, which then led to conflicts,
failing the installation. If you PM me the MAC addresses I can double
check those. But as I said: I'd expect all players connected to the same
LMS to show the same apps.

    No, that should work.

As I said: non SB hardware should not connect.

    Hi Michael

    Thanks - you have PM.

I wonder then if this is just the normal "registered to someone else" situation. That does raise an interesting challenge though. With SB devices, it's kinda obvious that they're going to have been used as an SB player. However, with a (second, third, fourth... hand) Pi, you've got no idea if it at stage in its past life someone's run squeezelite etc. on it. Of my 10 or so Pi's that I use for various things, I don't think I bought any of them new, so they could have been used for anything in their prior life.

I wouldn't call it the "normal registered to someone else" situation.
This shouldn't happen, unless you buy a unit from someone else. But
indeed, both your missing players were registered to some other users.
As they both seem to have been inactive for a while, I deleted the
players from the database. They should show up in your account, soon.

Please also try to double check whether the MAC addresses are valid. I'm
not sure whether this is easily possible with a Pi. But give it a try...
