Hi,
I wanted to use Spotty to look up one of the albums on my Spotify
favorites. To my suprise I got the message "cannot use spotify
services without a player". My players were offline, but why can't I just
look up my library?

As you can have multiple accounts with Spotty, each account setting is
tied to a player. No player, no account.
Could it be implemented differently? Sure. But who'd run LMS without a
player? :-) Fire up a Squeezeplay and you're good.

Spotty requires a player
Please note that this question is out of curiosity and not a complaint or
issue.

Interesting... My account is registered with the Spotty plugin and
since I'm not using Spotify Connect there is no connection between the
plugin and a player.

I have the habit of switching off devices that are note in use. So
my players are usually off.

Indeed. Starting a squeezelite solves it. But since this is an arbitrary
player, this merely ephasises that the account - player connection is
unused.

No worries!

My explanation probably was a bit technical. It described the way how
it's implemented. It could certainly be changed to allow browsing
without a player. But it would complicate things for a rather exotic use
case.
