    Digital out for RPi player

Iíd like to add quality digital out to a RPi 4B to use as music streamer for my stereo. LMS running on RPi 4B with Ethernet connection to router.

Iíd like to mimic a SB player with digital out to my MH tube DAC. Receiving WiFi stream of ALAC files.

So Iím thinking a SPDIF (spelling?) board with maybe high quality WiFi to boot.

And if indicated high quality power supply - currently Canakit.

    What do you guys suggest?

HiFiBerry DIGI2 Pro works just fine, even on my old RPi2.

Warning: if you're interested in doing some processing (eg. parametric EQ for room correction), don't get their DSP add-on board. Its filtering algorithms create a weird low level rumbling. (I suppose they might have fixed it since my bad experience). I do DRC by running through SOX on LMS, which works well and requires no hardware purchase.
Until recently: Transporter -> ATC SCM100A, now sold :-(
    House move forced change to: piCorePlayer(RPi2/HiFiBerry DIGI2 Pro) -> Meridian 218 -> Meridian M6

Does V1 or V2 make difference?

And do you have an upgraded WiFi onboard?

    https://www.hifiberry.com/blog/the-new-digi2-pro/:

    But what has been changed?

The output stage design has been improved for better signal quality on the RCA output.
It can now be used with our DSP add-on board. This allows you the same kind of DSP sound processing as it is already possible with the DAC2 HD and DAC2 Pro.
The board is black Ė it just looks cooler 😉
    Other options for Pi:

    • Allo DigiOne
    • PI2AES
    • IanCanada (TransportPiDigi?)
    • etc

Can't say I've noticed a difference between wired and wifi on my pi 4, could possibly get a dongle or use a wifi access point with ethernet to the pi

Might get a better response posting this in the Audiophile section

I have no idea what an MH tube DAC is but if it has USB input try that before considering anything else.

Not sure if MHDT usb out works with the pi. I didnít see it on the list. I didnít see my Lector on the list and I couldnít get it to work. USB works with Android and I know MHDT usb works with Android

An alternative is one of these.

    https://hifimediy.com/product/sabre-...e23hd-usb-dac/

Connects to USB on Pi and has a 3.5mm analogue/optical out. Very flexible.

I donít have this model but I do have two earlier versions and they work very well albeit you do need to up the default volume level in Alsamixer
