Removing sticky coating from remote control: Best practise?

The soft touch rubber coating on many items these days eventually breaks down into a sticky mess and is shite, it should be banned. The Classic (SB3) and Boom remotes are made of a plain black plastic and don't have that soft touch rubber coating.

Okay. Well as I said, the Touch remotes I have (dating from when released as a new model) for whatever reason have not gotten sticky.

First post here after years of lurking.

I reinstated my SBT after years in storage and found the same problem. I first disassembled the remote, then used cotton wool slightly soaked in rubbing alcohol to remove the sticky gunk. After that the surface felt unpleasant to the touch, so I then applied a small amount of baby oil onto a fresh pad of cotton wool, and "polished" the remote with it. It worked a treat, it now looks and feels fantastic.
